New Guy ?Good Deal on a VTR?

Howdy ya'll. 2002 VTR with 6k miles on it. Is $3000 a good deal? It has been down and had to have fairing repaired. Has new pilot tires. Not seen it in person yet. Buying it from a friend. Thanks in advance for your input.

Sounds decent if properly repaired and is straight.

I'd offer $2500 for it.

if its straight, i think thats a hell of a deal.. just try to make sure it doesnt need 1200 dollars in maintenance .. Tires, brakes, Cam chain, sprockets, wheel bearings, drive chain, any leaks, clutch, carb sink

Its a good deal as long as the items that lynchie listed are in good order. I would offer less though, you never know, you save some more money to put twards ins.

damage was cosmetic only. cracked front right fairing. he had it repaired and said it is in good running order. i still haven't seen it yet, but i'm thinking 2500-2700. don't flame me too bad. how do i check for carb sink, drive train, cam chain?? thanks in advance.

Drive train: check the chain and sprockets for wear and condition, check tires... anything that may cost you money right away which will take away from the good deal that you're looking at

Cam chain: check to see if a manual cam chain tensioner is installed. Usually the aftermarket CCT will be annodized in color and have a bolt coming out of it to adjust the CC

Carb sinc: you pretty much have to ask the owner. This isnt that big of a deal if hes not done it.

RoofCleanPhenom is an unknown quantity at this point
LMAO yea disregard those first two posts. Even if it's not been repaired yet, it's a good deal.

Fairings are cheap enough and SH's are easy to bring back to life.
6k miles means you have another 94k to go before you have to worry

+1 Even if it needs a little work it still is a good deal. Plus if you have to do a little bit of work its a great way to start learning about your machine.

ok got to see and ride it today. here is the low down on what i could tell. rear sprocket looked a little worn. figured it was from wheelies or not proper chain adjustment. front one prolly worn too. frame protecter (big black plastic thing) had to be replaced bracket was new. mirror, bar end, brake lever, case rashed. fairing was repaired not the best job but looked ok. tires are brand new with nipples still on them. michelin pilots. bike fired up fine no issues that i could tell. ran strong. i am bringing him a check for 2500 in the morning to seal the deal. going on a ride tomorrow but i'll be on the night train because i can't get all the paperwork done. let the mods begin. hmmmmm i am gonna have to open up those exhausts.
