A NEW faster color (pic heaaaavy)
Hey guys,
I have been working overtime here lately on this little project. Some of you may remember my original VTR project:
Obviously it was wrecked, and in my estimation beyon worth trying to restore to original. (I never really liked fairings anyway) So once winter hit, I have been working to creat a picture in my mind. While not done by a long stretch, I have made some good headway. Here it is, the new faster color: Pearl White!
Then with a little more "crafting" (loose term), I went on to make it look something like this:
I now will be moving on to clean up the front end. I will be reducing wiring, mounting the gauge front and center, much more polishing, and a few other tasty bits. I will try to post as it happens. Thanks for looking!

bang up job from the tank forward. Rear doesn't work though. i can only imagine the work that went into it but i think it conflicts with the lines of the bike. all that matters though is if you are happy. if so, get on, ride, enjoy!

Thanks for the kind words, guys. I have been spending a fair bit of time with this thing trying to get it looking just right. I wanted the Dunstall seatbase since I really like the attitude it gives the rear of the bike. That, and I think the stock rear of the bike is HUGE and very dated looking. I wanted something a little more aggressive and not as overweight looking. Not for everyone for sure, but I like it. The bike is now full LED as well (I have this thing for LEDs). The muffler hanger is actually just kind of stuck in there in the photos. But the muffler is in the stock position. I might try lowering the hanger to lengthen it when I actually get it bolted in.
Ironically, the front of the bike is where I feel it lacks the most. I need to finish cutting out a couple miles of wire, to get rid of the excess. The gauge will be lowering down to clean off the top triple clamp as well. I am not sure about the awful brake reservoir, but I will think of something.
Nothing--Nice colors! I wasn't sure if the pearl would be as reflective with a flat top coat, but it appears that yours reflects plenty! Nicely done.
Should have some more parts in this week, so I will try to update with progress. Thanks again, guys!

+1. I admire your hard work and craftsmanship but that rear just doesn't work at all. It looks completely out of place. Nice work on everything this else though!

Its funny that you think the rear of the original bike looks dated, I agree, but the Dunstall looks far older to me more 1970's.
Just my 2pence and has been said as long as you like it thats all that matters!

Got a little more done tonight, but no pics as yet. Got the gauge re-mounted, and the muffler stay in permanently, and mounted the rear brake reservoir.
Ha, it is funny that I would think the Dunstall seat not as dated as the stock one. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have a very minimalist, understated result in mind for this project, and so far it is not disappointing me. It was actually themed after the cafe racer idea of my other two bikes, and I wanted to see a more modern bike in cafe trim.

hard to maintain though. I'm a tall guy to start with and I've found myself at least a few times catching my foot on the rear seat cowl while swinging my foot over, and shoe/boot scuffing the white. comes out, though.

I love the backend! not so much the LEDs, but the lines, remenicient to me of 80's track bikes, or 70 cafe racers. Seems to be paying an homage to earlier bikes. looks like alot of work too, LOL!

The original inspiration behind this was the cafe /racer movement. I really had wanted the Dunstall seat on the Yamaha, but then couldn't take my wife along. So I incorporated the idea into the VTR, and so far am happy with the retro-ish look. The LEDs are just so I don't have any protruding lamp stalks, and no unnecessary colors showing. I really like the blend of genres as well, but it seems it is kind of a specialized taste.
All of the seat components are alloy aluminum. The Dunstall seat was made by Sean at Roc City Cafe, and then I added the lights and the undertail. I highly recommend his work. The subframe is a heavily modified VTR subframe I made, but is still steel. Here is a pic of the frame after mods

I got home from work today in time to get some sun shots. Gotta love pearl in the sun! I rolled it back inside and worked on it through the afternoon. I polished the muffler stay, modified the wiring harness and cut a bunch of wire out. Then I routed it and did a little trim work. Then I bolted the tank down and filled it with gas. I charged the battery, and lit it off for the first time in two months. It was great to hear the old familiar rumble. I tried to post up a video, but evidently video URL's don't come through here. I will try again later. Here are the photos both before and after the afternoon's work

wow, I like the setup! those old liter bikes really give me a kick, I haven't even looked at my cb in over a month since it's winter. I really like what you did with that thing, I'd post a pic or 2 of my cb but not from this computer.
