I might be alone on this one, but Guns-n-Roses Civil War has always made my playlists. Even back when I used a walkman w/ tape player! It has a slow build at the begining and when the musical pace intensifies, so does the bikes RPM.

Saw Kottke numerous times at a little club called the Cabooze in Mipples, Minn. in the late 70's. Besides terrific music the Cabooze had 8 "bozo bucks" for a dollar, each entitling you to a plastic cup full of Grain Belt Beer. How I made home on my Norton Commando, from the Cabooze to my house in Uptown about a hundred times without getting killed is something I'll never understand.

When you talk about uptown are you talking about dinkytown? I lived NE in the ethnic hoods back then.

I only saw Leo Kottke once, at the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach in 1985. I don't know if I can maintain a pace on a motorcycle to match "Vaseline Machine Gun"....well, maybe for 2 minutes I can.

Uptown is around Lake St.and Hennepin Ave. Just east of the top of Lake Calhoun/bottom of Lake of The Isles.

I think about Metallica (one) and Slipknot (duality). There are many others, but they come to mind the most.

it appears that my thread is doing well!
funny how those tunes get in our heads and stay there! back in the old days before i had music to actually listen to a song would lodge in my head and i could not get it out. now mp3 can displace a tune when i so choose.

I remember my first track day, someone sent a stupid little video of a cat rowing a viking ship to "Emmigrant Song" (Led Zep, of course).

I was prety sure that song would be in my head while I was riding. I got out on the track and there were NO songs in my head!

I'm a huge Sublime fan. I've got them in my head a lot.

Who needs that when you got natural engine music all around you, Carb slides banging, valves ticking, gear train whining, pipes a pumping and making sweet music.

I can listen to store bought or radio music anytime, why would i want to waste a good ride with that stuck in my ears.

I knoiw i am the minority on this here, but i could care less. No one i ride with and that is a fairly large sport bike group, ever rides with music blasting.

Sunshine of your love by Cream. Soul Survivor by the Stones.

No singing. Aside from a general lack of musical ability, a full face helmet and morning breath discourage it.

Nothing in my ears other than earplugs.

Thumper, I'm with you.
I never get tired of the sound of the engine. It's a major part of the experience.
I often drive my truck wth headers and exhaust system with no music playing. It makes a beautiful music of it's own. 32 valve V8, baby!

there is no doubt that vtrs make nice sounds!!!
since i got my vtr i listen to my mp3 much less, in fact not much at all. as i get older i continue to lose interest in music, i still listen but i don't get into it as much as i used to.
that being said i still have my mp3 set up on my helmet.
i used to use a cassette in the breast pocket of my jacket, now mp3 attached to the side of my helmet. i guess some things improve. we're showing our age!!!
bikes - v-twin sound is incredible. in the four wheel world there is nothing quite like the sound of a v-8! yeah!!!

I've never ridden with earphones. The music is inside my head, but usually only while cruising. When I'm charging corners I don't have time to think about anything but my riding.

Like today, my wife and I took a ride up to Palos Verdes. On the way up there I had "Commotion" by CCR going through my head, but while riding the tight twisties on Palos Verdes Drive East it was nothing but VTR.

Gotta agree with Thumper if riding hard. Faster the speed, the better the bike's 'music'.... That and I found the louder the Ipod, the faster I'd go but not always with the same concentration- no good

Touring however, music is mandatory!!

I agree that listening to that big twin through a set of afternmarket cans is divine, but i have to say music at the right level lets you hear both the tunes and the engine growl. Having one of those volume controls on the headphone chord is great.

if you're looking for specifics; cover of Holy Diver done by Killswitch Engage.

I almost never listen to music when riding. Just a reminder- the thread title is "music in head", not music in ear buds.

I agree with VTRSurfer and RK1, the music is always in my head not in my ears, those are used to hear whats around me or maybe screeching towards me (it's happened). I do not now nor have I ever used any listenening devices!
