Me and my SH hit the ground today

Well me and the bike went sliding today, I live near San Jose California and the traffic sucks. It was a busy commute day today, I jumped into the car pool lane I just got up to around 55mph when a Honda mini van decided to not look and jump right in front of me into the car pool lane. The lane he came out of was at a dead stop, so when he jumped in to my lane he was hardly moving. It was too late, I impacted the van and bounced towards the center divider where I slide with the bike. This **** pisses me off I just bought thid Sh new 5 months ago. It takes one person doing something stupied to screw your stuff up. I guess I am very lucky with not getting killed. I got out of it with a messed up ankle, back pain and a hair line crack in my right arm. Next bike another SH or RC51. Ride Safe Tim

Re: Me and my SH hit the ground today

First of all, I'm glad you are relatively OK and eventually will mend. Injuries suck, period.

Sounds like the van driver was suffering from HUA, wasn't paying attention, and used your lane to avoid hitting the cage in front of him. Hopefully your incident will remind the rest of us to pay CLOSER attention to the a-holes around us AND practice our panic braking/avoidance manuevers more often.

Better luck with the new bike.

Re: Me and my SH hit the ground today

Glad to know that you are nevertheless ok!

Seems that you have been lucky to not be too bad injured in your bad luck!!

I don't know for the US, but here in Qc you would be in the 85% of the bike accident that are caused by a car driver! And after this, they would like to increase our assurance contribution!!!

For your new ride, I'm sure that the RC51 thinking is only some post trauma effect, SH is still the good choice!!

Hope you will be well soon.

Take care

Good to hear you're ok.

Was the driver ticketed for their stupidity??

If they were...I'd get a lawyer.....it's the CA thing to do ! LOL Really, take their money.....and the next time they decide to follow to close.....pull out w/o lookin.....they MAY think.

Naaaa......I'm in a dream world here.

Whew!
Glad to hear you're okay. I'm a fellow South Bay resident so I can easily imagine the same thing happening to me. Make sure those "minor" injuries are really just that.

Very true, wasnt my time. It really makes you think. As far as a bike goes after thinking about it I liked the hawk too much to get something els. I am dealing with my insurance company wich in turn is going to hit his up. They are looking at the bike, helmet is covered, rest of gear that the crew cut off is not. Tim

Sorry to hear about your bike, but glad to hear you got lucky. I know the feeling, my first superhawk was only 4 months old (only thing I ever bought brand new) when it was ripped in half by some jackass who lost control of his taurus on the highway, and I spent the next year learning to walk and run again. I'm always paranoid about going down the hov lane when all the other traffic is stopped because ******** always cut out like that with no regard for the traffic that's already in that lane and moving. Best of luck and heal fast.

Glad to hear you are relatively OK! If you don't mind...who would they put at fault in an accident like that?

+1. Glad you're okay, you're lucky to still be around! But as chaos mentioned when you are in a lane adjacent to a lane where traffic is dead stopped, you still need to slow down in case somebody does pull out in front of you- trust no one. Driver's fault, no doubt, but unfortunately you're still the one who is suffering... heal up fast, take it slow.

I'm glad you are okay. Even if your insurance doesn't cover your gear, you can sue the cage driver for any unreimbursed losses. If it's the cage driver's fault, they have to make you whole....

Hey TimC,

Sorry to hear about you accident! I live in the bay area also and the traffic here is such a pain. I am glad that you are of for the most part. Good Luck with the insurance companies etc...!

On a side note I just did a RC swap on my hawk so I have a whole front end that I am going to be selling if you need any parts. I live in Vacaville so I am pretty close to you.

So it's May of 1985

And I ride a 500 Interceptor off the showroom floor. It's my BD gift to myself, and I'm lovin' life. 'Till twelve days later when a transient in a Cordoba (with rich Corinthian leather, no doubt) rear-ends me at a light. After asking if I was OK, he drives away! OY! The police never caught him. Six months later I'm heading down the left lane of a one way street with a blind curve in it. Get around the corner and there's a Firebird coming right at me - and I've got a truck in the right lane next to me. Tried to split the difference and sheared the left side of the bike off on the driver's side of the 'Bird. Totally disgusting. Never went down again after that, but having your new baby bite it will never get easier to take. Way to live through somebody else's blunder!

Ouch. Glad you made it through in one piece.

Did the minivan jump the double yellows to get in?

If the other driver was ticketed or sighted "at fault" - everything will be covered by his insurance. Stick it to these ********!

Geez, Marm, you're right! I guess that's the result of the search function? Is that how these get dug up? I almost never look at the dates (does it show?).

I was reading this in shock. I was wondering who was going to be the first one to notice how old it was. People talking like it just happened.

Yeah, the thread is old (I had some response all set until you other guys figured out its vintage..) - but the problem and scenario is a current one. Irregardless of the age, we all have to do the driving for alot of other meatheads out there....

Heh heh heh. I like that "word."

On a slightly more serious note, I totally didn't notice how old this thread was. Reading the story, the date became unimportant.. burns me up.. When I ride the HOV lane, that's when I'm riding close behind the car in front of me, for exactly that reason.

Ride safe, people! Always give yourself an out! If you don't have one, make one. This may or may not have been preventable, but many crashes are.
