Make your own Phone/GPS holder for $7

9 Attachment(s)
Built my own unit, for pretty cheap, its stood up to 6 months of use, and i've upgraded to the galaxy S3 now, so i bought a suitable holder and the top just clips onto this setup :)

Bought galaxy s2 bicycle mount for $3.62 posted
got piece of rubber from clarks for free
got nuts and washers for $2
Got a 1 meter length of stainless M5 threaded rod for $9 (used about 12cm($1) of it)

Total cost about $6.60

Only thing i might change it the top washer. Might be a bit neater to have it oversized so it covers the headstem hole

the ebay unit - You just buy whatever version will fit your phone!

Or iphone 4 etc.. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/360-Degre...item3cc8f5b5ac

strip it to find it goes together on a m5 thread
Attachment 23701

My block of rubber with the threaded rod stuck through it. (clarks didnt stock solid round rod, so had to get square)
Attachment 23702

Shaved the rubber down to a rough cylinder and screwed on the bracket bits.
Attachment 23703

done (i neatened up the rubber a bit after this photo)
Attachment 23704

Stick it in the head stem and tighten the nut - This pulls the washer at the other end up, squishing the rubber foam against the inside of the headstem, securing it solidly.
Attachment 23705

Chuck on the bits again
Attachment 23706

Done - So an adjustable, sturdy phone/gps holder for $6.60.
Once the top nut is tightened, i couldnt budge it with a set of pliers

I just got the Samsung Galaxy S III, and was thinking about ways to get a mount on the bike. This setup is fantastic. Thanks for the idea!
