Macs and Ebay

Are there any other Mac users that have had a hard time getting full functionality from Ebay?

There are a couple of items that I'm interested in but don't have complete info. I attempted to ask the seller questions and was returned to the sign-in page. After monkeying around on my own, making sure that cookies were allowed and whatnot, I contacted Ebay. After over an hour in live chat with support I was told to get on a Windows machine in order to check my preferences. Was like WTF? I spent all that time and that's all they could say? Geeesh!

Anyone have a better idea?

Responding to my own post ....I'm so lonely.

For some reason I don't get full functionality using Firefox, as opposed to Safari. I dunno why, but I'm going with it for now.

What version of firefox were you using? I'm a pc guy so I can't help too much, but i don't have any problems that I notice with 3.0.8, other than the login being configured retardedly so you can't tab to the Keep Me Logged In box.

I've a G5 PPC with 10.5.6 and safari v4 beta - no problem at all

Though there was a phase when paying for an item and getting redirected to paypal that a message came up saying that safari wasn't supported. Thankfully that didn't last long.

There are a couple of items that I'm interested in but don't have complete info. I attempted to ask the seller questions and was returned to the sign-in page.

Were you logged in to begin with?

edit Try setting up as another user in OSX and see if your problem persists

system prefs > System - Accounts > create a new account. Log into that new guest account open web browser and try ebay

I had similar issues using Linux. Things were fine until I upgraded to FireFox 3 and lost alot of functionality throughout the web. I downgraded to Firefox 2.x until there were enough upgrades to bring the 3.x up to par.
I also use the Opera browser and keep the SeaMonkey browser as a last resort. It's really not that bad jumping around 3 browsers when you consider Linux is essentially virus free. (Apple users THINK they're virus free

Good luck.

as a long time linux use i miss FF 1.5. but yeah pretty much anything can be made to work. if your having problems getting a page to work and your using firefox try user agent switcher plugin. it will make the web page think that your on windows.

make sure your cookies are set to allows allow cookies by default it is set to only sites I navigate to, see if that helps just in case they have another server dishing out their cookies.

Thanks for all the tips. I'm on an iMac running Tiger and I usually use Firefox, version 3.0.8. What I'm unable to do is contact sellers. I can bid, so Ebay is recognizing my registration in that regard, but when I attempt contact I'm taken back to the sign-in page.

Switching to Safari allows me to make contact, though I questions don't show up on the auction page (not that it matters much as long as I can ask the seller).

I have checked FF cookies and Ebay is allowed, though maybe the pages associated with things like questions are being blocked?
