LOVE my Storm

I went on a couple of long trips in recent weeks on my VTR (Firestorm) and am truly impressed with the results of the mods I have carried out this year (Microns, DJ kit, heavy bar ends, 16/43 gearing, 18mm longer front intake runner, RaceTech modded shock, RaceTech .80 fork springs and 1mm hole in cartridge). While the bike was really nice before, it is now simply AWESOME. I no longer have my hands fall asleep while riding long distances (much smoother), the power is snappy and instant, the ride is smooth and controlled. I cannot beleive how these slight mods have totally transformed the bike (how Honda should have delivered it). I use the bike for sport-touring and now feel no need whatsoever to replace it with something else (FJR,...). I should note that I also have Heli-Bars, a Sargent seat, taller windshield, braided brake lines and EBC HH pads, and modded stock air filter on it too. All in all I couldn't be happier with the bike.

I would like to note that if anyone is seeking to really smooth out the engine (and noticeably improve the response), try lengthening the front intake runner by the said amount, it is a win-win mod.

That is all, I just wanted to share that with my fellow VTRers.

Cheers

Hi,

I bought my 98' VTR this spring and still have 2 years of Univerity to go throught. That beeing said, I don't have that much money to put on my bike but it really needs a better seat. Does anybody know if a getting my original seat well padded would be an '' as good and cheaper'' solution to a sargent or corbin seat.

Thanks

Re: LOVE my Storm

What windshield do you have? You have a shock that is modded by racetech, is this the stock shock? Where do you get heavy barends?

thanks in advance

Re: LOVE my Storm

Hi guys

to answer your questions:

front intake mod:
- rear intake runner is 30 mm longer than front, essentially I cut a longer runner so it was 18mm longer than thte front (ie. removed 12 mm) and ran it that way
- result: increased low-end power, improved throttle response and less vibration

shock mod
- I purchased the shock from eBay but it is indded a stock shock with what I beleive is a Gold Valve kit installed (less high-speed compression damping)
- result: smoother ride, especially over square-edged bumps

bar ends
- were purchased from eBay from a chap out of British Columbia (Canada) who custom machines them out of brass
- they are longer and heavier than stock and also come with a throttle-lock cruise control system
- check eBay as he often has stuff on there for auction

windshield
- taller than stock (not double bubble though)
- unsure of the brand as I picked it up from a guy along with the Sargent seat and a shop manual

cheers

Still waiting on my rear runner.
Backordered since 8-1-05
Found out there's another one backordered too!
Looks like I'm not the only one wanting to try this idea out.

Re: LOVE my Storm

This longer runner that thu are talking about, is this a part that can be ordered the proper length and installed?
I'm new to the SH so I will be asking alot of questions.

Thanks

Inside the airbox the front and rear carburators use different length velocity stacks.
Short on the front, long on the rear.
We're experimenting with using long stacks on both carbs for enhanced mid range.

Long stack part# 17239-MBB-D40

about $20 from Honda
