It's decision time!! what do you guys think of these bikes

ok fellow hawkers..i posted before asking how the comfort was on a 99 hawk. since people are built differently i figured the only way to really find out is by sittin on it, so i did. WOW! i was shocked when i realized how comfy it was. of course the bike had a corbin seat but i was really impressed with how much it felt compared to my first bike (katana). the bike was in my area even though i wasnt interested i called the guy up to "check it out". now im really torn between the 99 hawk that i really like and the f4i. heres the link to the hawk. i dont even know if i can post this on this forum. http://newjersey.craigslist.org/mcy/2249611388.html

i mean what more can i say about this superhawk. 12k miles, black. has the lower fairing which i love, probably loud as $hit!. CONS:: the gas mileage it gets. and the fact that it has no fuel gauge. gas is sky high and this bike guzzles gas like a *****.

F4i: http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/mcy/2251056671.html

also reallllly like this bike. the mileage doesnt really bother me. i had an 05 f4i with the ugly banana seat. this one is sporty AND comfy..yeaaa buddy!! let me know what u guys think. if weather permits im checkin out the hawk on friday please dont buy this bike if youre in the tri state area..NOT cool. open to all input..

I bet I can guess what the general response will be...

Go with what you want with your gut- it'll always be in the back of your head if you don't.

I'd say superhawk all the way. The bike is unique, has tons of torque, a cult like following and when people knock you for the mileage, just smile. If you want really good mileage get a 250 ninja cause those things bang out like 80 mpg.

Your first choice. It's looks like a clean Super Hawk with decent miles.

You do realize that this forum is going to be a bit biased, right?

check out your insurance rates big difference between a 600 and 1000 if you are a young 'un.

It may not be as bad as you thing though, as the SH is considered a sport touring bike and the f4i is a sport bike. Plus, age of the bike plays a decent part in the insurance depending on where you are and your provider. Also, young un's tend to buy the CBR/R6/GSX-R for their known horsepower, then stunt them, then crash them. The insurance companies know this and will often reflect it in the claims (at least from my experience).

Has the VTR been down or did the owner just want a black bike? The F4i has obviously spent some time on it's side.

I think the main difference you would find between the two is:

Open the throttle on the SuperHawk at 4000 rpm, and hold on while you feel the torque.

Open the throttle on the F4i at 4000 rpm...damn, I should have gone down 2 gears.

lol yes i know this is site would be a bit biased. its like going to a fox news channel forum and asking "what do you guys think of bill o'reiley??" yea the f4i was done on the left side. yet the kid put on the ad "bike is perfect not one scratch" and there is no way im getting a ninja 250. the last bike i had was a kawi z1000. the owner bought the bike. and realized riding wasnt really for him so hes selling it. friday is when ill check it out and thats when ill ask him the "has it been down" type questions.

Haha, the ninja thing was a joke- I was just saying that everyone has their own comfort level of mileage. 35mpg is better than most cages get, and that's the hawk at her worst for me...

I have had my first superhawk for about 2 months now. I am 6' and about 200 pounds. The bike is super comfortable and I love the V twin. One thing I don't hear many people talk about is how well they handle. Just a great all around bike. They aren't that great on gas though...

Hey, my VTR1000 is just fantastic, but if you can find one, don't discount how much fun a little VTR250 can be for local neighborhood blasts and through the twisties (forget the Ninja 250). I just picked up an '89 recently that I am now going through now to make more roadworthy, and it was only $400. Cheap fun and slightly better gas consumption than the liter bike.

The CBR ad has been removed....maybe it was sold. That narrowed down your choices pretty quick

So I don't trust the seller from the start. What else isn't he telling you?

The superhawk is a fantastic bike. There are pros and cons to both. The hawk is comfortable, has lots of low end torque and has a unique sound. The f4i is gonna have a smooth fuel injected engine, lighter, more top end. In my opinion I like the scream of a four so sound is all preference. The hawk is a great bike but dont do what I did and think its a supersport. The weight and handling is much more confidence inspiring that the stock hawk. The do have different purposes so be aware. Both are great just know what you want out of your bike.

7moore,

that bike is SICK. unfortunately it's in FL. if he's willing to bring it to me i would be more than happy to take her off his hands lol. i already asked him if he would be kind enought to deliver it and in return, ill take him to the jersey shore where we can fist pump a little to celebrate!

I already have a Superhawk, but I was even considering flying out and riding it back to Arizona ... maybe you could do this? If I bought every superhawk I liked, though, I wouldn't have any garage space or be able to play with other bikes

Honestly Alex, for that bike I'd consider it worth hopping on and riding it home... Unfortunately I have a pesky big puddle in the way, so you get to do the honors if you like... Have a look in the build thread for that particular bike and you will know it's done right... The price is insanely low for what you get... Only problem is, if and when you take a spin on that thing, no stock VTR will ever be sufficient again... Trust me, I know...
