Hello,
This site has been really great these past couple of weeks. I recently bought a barely used superhawk. It has 4k on it and is a 2003. I am upgrading from a cbr 600 f2 that I had street-fightered (sp?)
Anyhow I was looking around for a superhawk for a long time and then all of the sudden one came up at East Bay motorsports. Sweet!! I rode over there that night after work and bought it. I rode it home and noticed how stiff the suspension was on it. And that I was riding 80mph in 4th gear. not used to that. So the next day I took it to work, oh so pretty and sounds sooo good. The dealer called me and said that they wanted to pick it up and put some new rubbers on it and do the fluids. So they did and brought it back to me that night. well once I got this really nice bike on the road it died after about 4 blocks and continued to do so after every 2 blocks more with some cooling time between. Ultimately I ended up pushing it home. One time I was stopped and trying to start it back up again a dad with his little son stopped just to watch me pull away and the dad was like "look at that bike" and then thump dead!! how embarrassing. called them up the next morning and bitched at them some by that time I had figured out that if i turned the idle up to around 1300 it was ok and would not die but below that when the choke went in it would die. So I rode it to East Bay motorsports and had them look at it and they told me it was because i had the idle too high? so they turned it back down and gave it back to me, well ok so i rode home on Skyline back to berkeley and it died on me twice. So i turned the idle up and took it back. this time i turned it down for them and they experienced what i was talking about. so they took it apart and said that the choke plunger was cracked and the carbs needed to be tuned, I tried to explain the clunk die fix to them but they blew me off. well the plunger was on back order and was supposed to come in last friday. this all started 3 weeks ago! now they say hopefully by the end of the next week. What this has done though is given me time to read this site and get to know some of the upgrades i want to do (as if i didn't spend enough on the bike itself) Seems like suspension is the first thing. I have figured out how to use the search button pretty well I think. The front doesn't seem too bad for me I'm 150-155lbs but the back just seems so hard (this is from the 30mins I've actually ridden my chicken) would a lighter spring help or as i figure it this shop owes me and I might want to demand that they source a rear shock(ohlins penske whatever) for me and give it to me at cost. they are the largest dealership in the east bay so maybe they could get a good price. Does that sound like it would be a possibility? or would i just sound like an ***?
Well thats enough writing, sorry. I would love to get together with any other superhawk owners here in the Bay area and go for a ride especially once i get my hawk back.
peace
Nick

Welcome! Glad you've already put this forum's knowledgable members to use.
What's the preload on the rear spring set at? You might want to knock it down a couple notches and try 'er out. As for demanding a rear shock...I dunno. You might want to suggest they make good on some reparations for taking their sweet time with you and see what they offer but demanding a new spring probably will just get you an angry manager and shove-off.

Yeah I'm not really the demanding type, but they already seem apologetic..."if there is anything we can do...." So maybe some parts which i would pay for but at wholesale rather than retail would be something they could do for me, but I don't know if dealers like that have access to quality suspensions stuff at much less than what I can get it for from the companies themselves. I guess Icould just ask them.
Hi Ube, welcome to super hawk forum.
rear suspension for S-hawk is rare to find and cost around $900 or more new -used about half price on ebay. Seem like you're weight about same as me so my recommend to u keep front fork the way is it but increase some preload, rear suspension talk nice w/your local dealer chances u may get some discount for ohlins, penske or fox, wilber...
