I own mine, and if it wasnt for Hawaii being stupid crazy about bike thefts i would have full coverage. But since I live on base in housing... and its 5 times more expensive I opt out for now.

They want twice what my hawk is worth a year for full coverage vs $1000 per year for liability.

I've got full coverage at $250 deductibles and own my bike completely. I pay about $50/month and consider it -well- worth it, both for the simple peace of mind as well as all those "what-ifs".

guess its cause i am fairly young that my rates suck :-(

still better to pay the extra now and know it either gets fixed or replaced ... than to not be able to afford to fix/replace it if some moron steals it or my dumb a$$ drops it ... never know what could happen

You left out my option in WA state to not carry insurance. Not required.

There's a lot of truth in that Condor quote, but there's a big difference between people complaining 'cause they want the goobermint to give them more free **** vs. people complaining 'cause they want the govt. to leave them alone and stop stealing half of their money.

I've got liability for $80/yr. and only because the state demands it. If I hit something hard enough to cause $30k worth of damage, my liability needin' days are over.

is Washington the only state that doesn't require some sort of coverage?

I'd think carrying at least basic insurance better than dealing with the last half of this paragraph, taking from WA DMV's site. That, and you build a record with a company who'll give you better deals/discounts later on.

"Washington does not require insurance for motorcycles, but riders do have minimum insurance requirements for financial responsbility. You might be required to deposit cash or post a bond with the DOL for as much as $25,000 if you're found to be at fault in an accident."

Own it. Full coverage w/ $500 deductible is $368/year w/ Progressive. Not bad at all. Full coverage required during financing, liability required afterwards.

Here in Warshington, we don't even have to have liability on a bike!
Me, I wouldn't buy a bike I couldn't buy for entirely for cash, or just about. If it gets wrecked, I'll just have to buy another one.
Okay, I actually bought my Hawk with a credit card. But I had to have it, that day. Or I might have died (I told my wife).

Well, we did try to insure my Hawk, and the agent was all for it until he found out it was a VTR, not a VTL. That one letter made all the difference, and he wouldn't touch it, at any price. Should I be looking elsewhere? Actually, insurance would be nice.

don't even get me started on taxes.....the more research I do, the more I find them to be UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

anyway: full coverage and i own it....i don't recall the exact figure but i think it's around 350$ a year. since it was affordable, i couldn't see a reason to not have the peace of mind. my insurace company, supporters of communism that they are (Progressive-donated 8.5 million dollars last year to the ACLU as well as MOVEON.ORG ), have been very good about fixing damages that I have had in the past (with my cars). Even though they are affordable, I have been shopping around, and when my insurance is up here in the next few months I will be taking my business elsewhere, as I do not want a penny of my money supporting any of the politcal organizations that they support.

Own it and full coverage. $353.00 per year, $500.00 Deductible and it covers all the accessories. Was with Progressive for $1200.00 a year and not near the coverage. Clean record over 25 years old and married! Found out Farm Bureau was only $350.00 for better coverage. I couldn't believe it. I asked them if they realized this is a sport bike, they said it didn't matter. They go by size(over 1000cc's) and my age(over 25.)

well, i would have insurance, but they wanted 3000 a year, which is totally insane, so i dont have insurance. fortunately, in the great state of washington you dont have to have it.

Must be nice, I got Geico, and progressive wasnt much cheaper. State Farm was really cheap but they wanted me to jump through a BUNCH of hoops just to get covered. Like wanted a copy of my riders course completion card... no problem except i took it 9 years ago! Thank God I found it and now have it nearby... might think about switching companies again on the 1st.

Dude, we need to go ride together, you off this weekend? I am itchin to use my camera mount for a good ride.

Now if it would STOP raining

My bike is paid off so I do not have to have full coverage or insurance at all...crazy floridians! haha I do still have full coverage w/a $250 deductible and it only costs me $40 a month. When I first bought the bike I was paying $205 a month for insurance.....ouch! My rear was a little sore then My main reason I still carry it is in case of theft. I work in a shop and I see and hear about it all the time.

can't go this weekend or next, then I'm taking a trip...I usually only ride early on Sundays and can't go for more than an hour because of arthritis in my hands/wrists...yep, I'm a geezer...I'll be back in mid April, maybe we can get together then...

When I bought the shawk I was living in florida, and didnt need insurance. At the time I bought the shawk I was 23 with a clean driving record, I took the msf brc course when I was 16. The insurance companys wanted 3K a year for full coverage.

So I rode for many years without insurance. It is legal in florida.

I now keep liability on her, as a just in case. That runs me 300 a year.

I 1/2 own it... I paid part in Cash, and part on Credit....

I've chosen state minimum's for liability right now as NY insurance is exspensive, and its still winter, so limited use....

Once summer gets here, and i'm in Ky... I'll consider full coverage again....

BUT.... There is only so far I am willing to go for full coverage... The way i see it.. If i drop it, its my fault... I fix it.... If i manage to really wreck it, and cause damage... liability covers the damage to anybody else up to 30K or so... and my *** needs to take a brake anyway....
