How old were you...?

How old were you when you first rode a motorcycle?
You know, the very first time you got on one and rode it or at least tried to.

How old were you when you got your first bike?
What was it, a dirt bike, street bike, scooter or ATV?

How old were you when you got your motorcycle endorsement on your drivers license?

I sarted on a PW50 when I was four. Had many MX bikes since then. Can't really put any numbers with it. Bought my first street bike, the SuperHawk, when I was twenty. I got my endorsment a week or two later, using the SuperHawk. A lot of people puss out and use a tiny little enduro or something. I say take the test on the bike your gonna ride.

First ride? 3 yrs old with my dad on his ancient '65 yamaha YG1 (80cc 2stroke)
First drive? 7 years later on the same bike after i had taken it apart and put it back together again
18 for the MC endorsement - and then had the car endorsement removed so it was just a motorcycle license. Un heard of at teh time but my parents auto insurense was giving them hell because i was a driver in the house.
My bike and no auto license solved that!

Supposedly dad took me riding when I was to young to hang on and used a big belt to strap me to his back. At 5 or 6 I had a little 5 hp rupp then an old honda 50 then a 83 gs550 that I got my license on at 16 bought the hawk a year ago at twenty three.

I was 15 when I returned home from a friend's cottage and learned my dad had bought an 80cc Suzuki K11. It was a complete surprise. He taught me to ride that summer. Motorcycling was one of the few things we could talk about for the next eight years.
I got my motorcycle licence in November, 1967 on my second attempt. I had a bit of a problem with the rules of the road the first time. I got my car licence when I was 24.

First rode a bike when I was 15 (lived in apartments in Germany or suburbia in the US so I was deprived of a chance before then ) My dad's BMW K75. It was gigantic and I only weighed 130ish pounds. Ended up tipping it on my knee and breaking some cartilidge...good times.

Got my first bike at 19, summer after my freshman year of college. It was a 98' Honda CR250R dirt bike. It was a 2 stroke monster and scared the living crap out of me, in a good way

Finally having free time, money, and space, made me realize how much I really liked the sport. That same summer after my freshman year I took an MSF class, got my license, and started riding everything I could get my hands on. 4 bikes and (knock on wood) no injuries later, here I am, 23 and very happy with my SH.

My first bike was a 1979 Yamaha DT100F which I got when I was 12 (soon to be 13). I haven`t looked back since and love motorcycling more now than I ever have....

Around 1966 I was 12ish and I was riding my brother's 10HP Vespa scooter on dirt logging roads and on the streets in my neighborhood in northern NH. Of course avoiding the police because I was underage. Geeky machine but I had loads of fun. The rear lower "bubble" where the license plate mounts was curled up from so many wheelies.

First ride was when I was about 4 on my uncles 2 stroke Kawasaki (I think). First bike of my own was a 1970 Honda CB100 I got for Christmas when I was in the seventh grade. Used it more for a dirt bike. Got my license and first real road bike when I was 20. It was a 1990 Hawk GT. Sold it a year later and bummed buddies bikes for the next five years and bought my Superhawk new in April of 2000. And this one isn't going anywhere. May add more to the stable but the VTR is staying.

First ride was on my cousin's boyfriend's BSA 441 Victor when I was about 12yo.

First bike - a home made mini bike sourced from a buddy's electric mini bike and a 3.5hp Briggs & Stratten motor we 'liberated' from a local construction site. No clutch and a coat hanger for a throttle.

First real bike was a 1965 Honda Benley, arguablely one of the ugliest motorcycles ever made. Square shocks & forks. 160cc of raw, screaming power. I was 15.

I am now 57 and there has always been a bike in my garage. Current ride is a 2004 Moto Guzzi EV Touring.

My 99 Firestorm is for sale.......

Envy all those stories of dads giving their kids the riding bug. My parents, relatives, even my riding friends then, all tried to persuad me not to ride. 10 years now and my family still doesn't want me to ride.

If I ever had children, they will definitely have their own bikes.

I'm 49 at the moment and can't recall my age when I first got my first ride. However I do remember my older brother had friends up the street that had motorcycles. I would go up there, and someone up there would say" hop on" ! Never looked back, motorcycle are big part of my life. Always will be.

I'd ride with Dad on his BMW as an infant.. Rode a Rupp mini bike on my own sometime before 6 yrs old (possibly as early as 4). First rode a dirt bike bike with a clutch at 12. And a street bike (Harley) at 20 something. (was riding street legal dirt bikes on the roads before that though)

My dad took my brother and me to ride on his '68 Bultaco Matador, so that makes me 8 or 9 when I first rode on a motorcycle. I had a minibike in my early teenage years and then I had the use of a Yamaha RD200 (?) for awhile when I was 16.
I bought my first bike, a Yamaha RD400, when I was 19. Although I have had a bike nearly the whole time since, the Super Hawk is only my fourth motorcycle, the others being the RD400, a Yamaha RZ350 and a CBR600F2.

My first bike was when i was 17 and in shop class at school a neighbor had a 1981 gs500 that had been sitting for YEARS took it apart had no money to buy new parts, a week later another friend donated me his 78 kz650 that i am NEARLY done restoring should be on the road after the weekend 2 years with that bike then bought the hawk in september of 09 at 19 years of age. I had never driven ANYTHING with a hand clutch until the kz at 17, lets just say it took a few cuss words to get it down.

Parents were in a sports car club and I went for a ride on the back of one guys "Rabbit" scooter when I was 5 or 6. 5 horse mini bike at 11. Spent a summer with my cousin and his DT 175 when I was 15. Other cousin had a Kaw750 then traded for a 900. Wouldn't let me ride it (could barely hold it up) but I was on the back at 120mph before the helmet turned sideways and I couldn't see. Four kids later, son had an RM 80 when I was almost 40. Got back into 2 wheels when a neighbor gave me an old Kaw 250 single. He had a nice BMW with a sidecar and I bought Baby(R60) in 2002. Started building a custom Harley, bought a beater Sportster as a graduation present for my son. First crash in 2003. MC endorsement in 2005. Superhawk was sons idea, turns out he meant for him! How was I supposed to know?

Great post! I swapped a black and white TV (that didn't work) in 1969 for a Villiers 200 'scrambler'. Piece of crap but at the time I felt like Barry Sheene. Fell off more than Tiger Woods...still have the scars at 54 to prove it...
Passed my test at 16 in the UK...
Progressed to a BSA C15, BSA Starfire, Honda 250 (wow - electric start) and now a Buell and the VTR...
What a journey.....

I was 19 when I thought to myself it would be fun to know how to ride a motorcycle. I hadn't had that thought before but it stuck. I found myself perusing classifieds and with the guidance of a wise co-worker I found myself a not running cb450sc that had been sitting for ten years. Well I also had zero experience working on motorcycles, or engines for that matter I was a total newb. My dad was never very mechanical so even though I had the interest in working on mechanical things I had no where to start. I was able to clean the carbs and get it to run sort of but it wasn't right so I took to a shop who ripped me off just to tell me the choke was backwards which it was but even then the problem that was originally there was still there. Well I road it anyways and one day it blew a cloud of black smoke and took off on two cylinders again like it was new. It ran great after that I put thousands of miles on it and even took my test for my license on it. After a few years I picked up the super hawk and haven't stopped smiling every time I ride. As most of you know by now I am totally into working on motorcycles too now. So my riding has improved and so has my independence.

17 and just out of high school, in 1964. 2 friends and I went to the new Suzuki dealer and rented 60cc 2 strokes for $5/hour. The guy showed us where the brakes and clutch were and showed us the shift pattern...then we were off, pinning the throttle flat out at 55mph in T-shirts, shorts and sneakers with no socks.

Didn't buy my first bike until 1981, at 35 years old, a '78 CX500 modded for canyon racing. The cause for the delay was mainly my ex-wife. I got my motorcycle endorsement the same year. Here I am 29 years and around 190,000 miles later.

my first bike was an mx80 yamaha dirtbike. Got that for my fifth b-day. Had to stand on a tree stump to even get on. Moved on to a cr125 then to a yamaha 450. That thing was scary. Stand straight up in any gear-any speed. then on to a yamaha genesis 750. Then a nine hundred ninja, fzr600(which i got ran over on at astop light and the driver fled.), and currently a VTR1000. My favorite yet! Got my official endorsment, no lie, at 29 years old! First street bike at 16.

RD350B - Orange, that was my first street bike at 18. I had a bunch of dirt bikes prior, Penton, Bultaco and the mighty 1972 Suzuki TS125 was my first bike. I had maybe 20 or so in total. My favorite was the RD since I had that one at college, chicks loved it, and I loved giving them rides and using the front brake!
