How do you pick a bike up?

Im not that big and I am pretty well broken up from an accident 5 years ago. I could not for the life of me get my bike up last thursday. How do you do it? What are some of the tricks and tips on doing this?

Yes, use two people. I've done it once or twice by myself and my back always hurt the next day.

+1 on the two people. I can pick it up by myself, but if I don't have to why bother.

Obviously getting 2 people to pcik it up, preferably male, would be the best. thats not always an option tho.

I can say a shot of adrenaline really helps! And I had plenty of that in my system right after my little mishap a couple years ago. I got mine up by myself... using you lower body strength is important.

But adrenaline runs out quick.... especially when it's 95 deg. & you're in black leathers.

I didn't have the strength to push it out of the ditch on my own. Fortunately a motorist stopped & helped me get it out.

I've done the lawn thing too, with wet grass so I was sliding all over when I tried to pick it up.

Yes it does! BTDT I've got tons of stories believe me.......like the time I got the exhaust wedged on the loading ramp getting it in my truck and the bike was stuck there....by myself again!! Good times, good times.

I just sent this method out to my motorcycle group at work. 3 people replied with huge bikes. They have all used it and it works. ST1100, Gold Wing, and a Fatboy! The gold wing and the fatboy are owned by women smaller than me!

Or you could just break the bike into several smaller pieces like I did thereby making it much easier to pick up...

Out of town dipshit panics on the highway when changing lanes (didn't notice the motorcycle right next to him) and jerks the car back into his lane and loses control and spins 'round and 'round and 'round and comes to almost a complete stop blocking the highway in front of me so I basically t-boned him at about 80 or 90 and went over his hood like superman...no big deal lol...had a choice between trying to stop (wasn't going to happen) and trying to get around him, so I tried to get around his spinning car but that didn't work out too hot either. **** happens fast sometimes, guess maybe I could have left a little more room or reacted quicker, who knows. Just in the absolute wrong place at the wrong time.

I have straddled the bike, hold the front brake, turn the front wheel the opposite way that it fell, and walk backwards. It sounds complicated, but the bike comes right up. I don't recommend dropping the bike to try it out, but if you happen to find a bike on its side, give it a try.

Well what I first told her (not in forum) was: "To pick up a bike, it helps if you tell them they are pretty, smart, and that you lose yourself when you stare deeply into their headlights." So I figured I had better find something actually useful to tell her here.
