How do they run stock?

By stock I mean carbs, air filter & exhaust. Just as it came from Honda. I have read bits and pieces in jetting threads but too much completely stock. It seems like a shim to help cures most of the ills?

For those who run stock how does it run:
Off idle?
On the Freeway?
Midrange sport riding on/off the throttle?

What kind of fuel mileage do you get?

Mine runs pretty well everywhere but it is not stock.

Thanks,

Steve

um.. it runs like its supposed to I guess?

I get about 100-125 miles per tank, depending on how I'm feeling that day.

I have everything stock and I think my bike runs really good!! Of course I want to get new exhaust, jet kit, air filter, 520 conversion kit, remove pair system, install speedohealer, racetech forks etc...:D

Idle seems pretty good, gas mileage is about 130 miles per tank depending on how fast I go:shock:

I think there is a little bit of lag time when I grab a handful though, I would like my bike to be a little more responsive, I think upgrades will take care of that:wheelie:

Mine ran real well in stock form with 41-43 mpg... I have shimmed the needles and added a K&N but otherwise still stock and 41 avg mpg.

well apparently they are jetted really lean for emmission purposes, especially at lower RPM, hence that hesitation once in a while that is cured by the shimming of the needles...

to be honest, they are such temperamental bikes its hard to tune them...i had mine tuned spot on with a DJ stg 1 kit and yet sometimes it'll run beautifully and other times it'll stutter at low rpm. i learned to live with it.

When I had a brand new one it was everything cycle world said it was. Unlike the abrupt throttle response of the fuel injected TL they said the superhawk had "the type of linear throttle response that leaves you wondering why we even need bother with fuel injection." I've since owned several more and have never experienced any hesitations or jetting issues on any of them with stock jetting, and it also never mattered the exhaust I had on it either.

After putting in a jet kit this is what I noticed.

So after pulling the tank and carbs 2 times (pita) got her tuned in well.

After riding her for awhile now I notice that she

1)Pulls stronger - all over

2) Has more top end power - she use to ge up to 8K and then fall flat on her face

3) Has less vibration- running at 2K rpm's in 6th gear if you crack the throttle I use to get bad vibration (yes the carbs were synced to within spec)

4) Wheelies easy'er - like it had a problem with that before

I havn't noticed that my gas milage has increased as some people have suggested, but I do have a heavy throttle hand.

The tone that people have with regard to a jet kit is it is hard to tune and is generally a pain in the a$$.

They don't mention that the hassle is worth it, so I am! You get a bike that is smoother, stronger and has no/little flat spots. It also takes care of a few minor annoyance that the Shawks have.
