Help! Snapped Bolt!

I was installing some frame sliders today.. the Right side went on fine and dandy but while removing the left side engine bolt it SNAPPED!!! Without even giving very much resistance. This is a hollow bolt, and I can see that about 1/2 inch of it snapped off and is still in threads.. Im hoping the fact that it is hollow will make it easier... But for now im screwed!! Any ideas on how I should try to get this out? Would a shop rape me for something like this?

hi mate.
its a bit of a bitch when this happens, quite an easy fix, two ways to do it yourself
1. you need to get a EASY OUT STUD SCREW BOLT EXTRACTOR SET about £5-10
2. drill and tap it
both quite easy to do
hope it helps mate good luck

Since it's hollw already if the easy out works it should be easier but,(and there's always a but) if it broke it might not be threaded right. Try it first and spray some penetrating oil in there and let it sit.

Re: Help! Snapped Bolt!

Was there any locktite on the bolt that came out? If so, some carefully applied heat might be in order. What ever you do, don't break off an easy- out in the bolt. that can get ugly. I've done it.

ugh... we broke one off and two drill bits when trying to get a bolt out from my rear trailing arm over the summer. that was the most annoying thing ever... car sat on blocks for about a month

My bike is in the shop right now with a broken bolt in the crank case on the right side. They are quoting me $240.

Well, I got it fixed... for a while at least! Got the bolt out with a lot of drilling and some persuasion with a hammer... There is some threads damaged but I think the new bolt got enough into the OK threads to be alright.
