Hello.. new to the board and to SH..
I just picked up a 2005 superhawk on a salvage auction as a winter project.. I already have a 95 magna for cruising, but wanted a sportbike for a little more fun on nice summer days..

I really don't know yet what is wrong with the bike that it was salvaged but most of it looks decent.. I am hoping it was just stolen and needs some keys.. other then the lever and the turn lights, I don't see much wrong but if your trained sh eye can give me some insite I would be happy.. It will take the bike a few weeks to get to me so in the mean time I am hoping to read up and learn all I can about repair and modifications of SH.
I am up in Vancouver Canada btw..

well.. they are not that bad to deal with.. it is a bit of a learning experinece.. you must get your deposit into them fast.. I would suggest just putting 400 on account with them to avoid the hassle the day of.. They say you have about a 50/50 shot of getting the bike if you are the high bidder..
I have to have this one shipped so a bit of a hassle and cost there so if you life out east it is much easier.. We don't get nearly as many or as nice a selection of bikes in the northwest.. and I also notice prices are higher in Wa state and Or for bikes compared to out east and down south.. Must be the lack of people and bikes..
All that being said.. it has taken about a week to get all paper work in and the bike is suppose to be shipped tomorrow.. I may have to put it in storage in Blaine wa for a bit while I wait for the title, which could take up to a month.. ( I will likely start working on it there.. )
But from what I can see, unless the engine is blown it does not look to bad.. I can't tell if the front end is bent, all I can see are the two turn lights front and the brake lever.. so hopefully it will be an easy fix..

Looks like it still has the stock tires. The clutch lever is bent, in addition to the brake lever. The left footpeg is gone. In my experience, you can't lay the bike down (and break the turn signals) without some damage to the fairing. That suggests there is something - scratches at least - on both front fairings. Whatever that may be, it doesn't look bad. It also means that both of the mufflers should be scratched, but the rear bodywork may be perfect. You also may have scratches on the engine covers on both sides, but there's no oil on the ground, or on the covers, so they don't seem to be cracked. In the second photo, it looks like the forks are straight, but you can't really tell in a picture.
Anyway, it looks like only a few cosmetic things, most of which don't NEED to be fixed. I hope you don't get any surprises. Good luck.

yeah, I too see it as light damage but it seems very "weird". Both levers bent? Maybe just a new rider or thief who didn't know how to ride and dropped it several times.
yeah.. more or less what I was thinking when I bid on it.. did not see enough damage there to really think it should be a writeoff.. but for the price I know I can afford to put a few bucks in and still be way ahead.. I will let you all know when it arrives.. should be interesting.. nothing like a crap shoot lol..
just an update.. I finally have my bike in the shop.. The total cost of getting it in near new shape looks to be about 750 bucks.. so 2900 for bike and 750 for parts and labor and I have a 2005 sh with 2700 miles ready to go.. that includes new tires.. so all in all I am pretty happy with Ridesafely
