fuel range/capacity

So i just got the hawk, and was wondering how much gas it holds and what is the average range u get, also for those of us with fuel gauges, how many miles can u get from the very last bar

On my 98, the dummy light comes on after about 75-80 miles and if I fill up right away, only takes 2.5g to top off (not sure why it comes on so soon). I generally ride until I'm at 110-120 miles before filling up.

I can go anywhere from 90 to 110 miles before the bottom bar on the gauge starts blinking red. Having ridden since long before bikes had fuel gauges, I always zero the trip odometer at fill-ups. So I can't tell you how far you can go on the bottom bar. When I get close to 90 miles, I start thinking about filling up. You do have to plan your rides accordingly. I've gone over 10 miles with the gauge blinking, but I don't push it. And it would literally be no fun to push a SuperHawk to a gas station.

If my gauge is blinking, it may take up to 3 gallons to fill it to the bottom of the neck while on the sidestand.

On the other hand, my wife's SV650S will go 160 miles or so before the low fuel light blinks.

I get about 40MPG average, but I don't set any speed records. I have gone over 120 miles between fillups. So far I have not waited long enough to have red warning bar flash.

I always fill my tank up to the brim. I hate stopping for gas! ( I know, I know) I've gone as little at 75 miles to as much as 136 miles before the red light started flashing.
Just cruising around town I only got 140 miles to a full tank last week! don't ask me how I know?

I would say its safe to say you can still go about 20-25 miles once the red light starts to flash

I always found this curious. The tank is supposed to be a little over 4 gallons if I remember correctly. I get about 40 mpg, now I'm no mathemitician but that should equate to 160 miles. I've only had my light come on once at about 110 miles running while on the side stand and went off when I stood it up. I generally fill up at 100 miles due to what I have read here about tank range.

Regarding the 4.2 gal tank. I don't think that it is possible to fill it up. The most I could ever get in was 3.5g
That was after riding 25 miles on the flashing red light.

+1

I think you'd have to eliminate all air space to "fill up" the tank. And that is pretty much impossible.

It looks good in the Honda brochures though. But I'm not complaining.

75 or 80 miles!!?? Sounds like some kind of problem. I have aftermarket cans, different slow jets and some other work done and I get AT LEAST 110 before the light comes on. Around 135 if it's freeway miles.

Aussie Firestorm

Hi all
I have an Australian Firestorm (build 12/2005) with a 19 litre tank and I get 100km for about 5.5 litres mostly with a passenger. Reserve starts flashing at about 250 kilometres and at 19 litres it should get about 320 kilometres out of it. I fill up when it starts flashing and it has never taken more than 14.5 litres.
Fuel economy falls dramatically when hard on the gas.
Cheers
John

Nah dude. I have aftermarket cans & jets, and definitely like to use gasoline, mine goes on around 90 miles or so...

ranchomice 05-21-2011 10:16 PM

I have all of the above and it has never gone on before 100 miles, regardless of riding style, place etc. etc. AND, I'm running it rich! Besides, he said 75-80 miles.
