Frame Sliders... anyone here has them??
Anyone here has any frame sliders on their superhawk?
where did you get it from? quality, price?
did you have a chance to "use" them? and if so, how did they hold up?

I've got the lighting performance sliders. They are good quality and appear well made. My only "beef" with them is their size. They are nearly 6" long and stick out from the sides of the bike quite a bit.

I think they ran about $100 for the set of 2. I just wish they had a rear set to protect tail/pipes.
I'm not sure who makes the other set available for the VTR, but they mount differently, and are about half the size.

What is involved in installation? To me it looks like fairing removal, and replacing one bolt with a longer one.
With these sliders it appears that they mount on one side of the slider. Would it not be possible for the sliders to spin around (thus banging into the fairing) in a crash?

Actually you don't have to remove the fairing at all to mount the lightning's. They have a notch slotted out of the bottom of them to clear the fairing, so it's sipmly a matter of taking out a frame bolt, and bolting in the new sliders.
I agree the sliders are a little long, but I guess thats better then being too short and not working effectively.

I'm pretty sure they were from lightning. Chris (the owner)had placed the order for me.
Simply installation. One bolt out, new bolt in (with slider on it) Can't get any easier.
Maybe Lightning doesn't sell direct to retail. They are hard to find but he got them for me within a week.
Can't beat that, plus he'll probably sell them to you for less than retail. He's a good guy.

That Dennis Kirk link is not the ones I have.
Those definately are NOT the Lightning Products ones that I have. There is no aluminum offset plate with those. Without the offset piece you may run into some problems.I suspect you have to cut the fairing for those to work.

well, I am assuming that the pics that Random posted are the only kind that lightning performance has for superhawk. (?)
I looked at the links of pictures that appear on runlevelzero as well, and they have the metal offset on them (no cutting required.)
I ordered a set from a local shop here (Santa Clara cycle accessories), for a cost of $99 +tax, and will be receiving them in a couple of days. I will let you all know how it goes. I ordered the lightning performance sliders for superhawk. We will see what I end up getting!!!

the units I got from DK were from Lightning and they did come with the metal plates, and do NOT require cutting of anything. I think the photo on their website is wrong, those are sliders for another bike.

I bought a set from Dynamohumm in Quebec three years ago. They use offset metal plates to position them above the fairing, and the use the upper engine mount bolt for attachment. This requires a special tool for properly torquing the mount bolt.

I think Faz is probably right. Dennis Kirk probably just has the wrong picture posted for the lightning sliders.
If the ones you ordered are mfg. by Lightning then they should come without the offset spacer, which will make install a breeze and you won't have to cut the fairing at all.
Post a pic once you get them mounted.

Well, I just went to pick up the sliders from the shop, and yes, they are from lightning performance, and yes, they do come with the offset plates on them, so no cutting is required, just as shown in pictures in the links above.
I will be posting some pictures when I install them on my bike. I actually like the length of them already. After all, I am a male with an obsession with size! The longer...

I've just purchased a set of lightning performance sliders, can anyone provide some installation tips?
I assume that since I'm going to remove a engine mount I'll need to brace the engine in some way. How did your install go?

No need to brace the engine or anything. you will be doing them one at a time, and there is enough support from other bolts to keep everything in place.
I did mine when the fairing was removed. It helped with access to the bolt, especially when using a torque wrench. (which I highly recommend you use when tightening the bolts back... it is important to torque them down to the specified value (see repair manual for values.))

Does the mounting bolt actually require a special tool?

The Lightning Performance sliders I got had different bolts - hex inset, 5/16. So I had to buy a hex bit socket set ($10). My torque wrench is in pound inches, and the manual has it in pound feet. I tightened engine bolts to 29 pounds ft = 348 pound inch (I think - so correct me NOW if I'm wrong : ) It still feels like it could be tightened much more...
