Guys, guys...I spotted what threw us ALL off. His motorcycle was "board" out. Apparently, that's a completely different process that not only changes the engine, but the model of the bike as well. Boy do we look stupid, hey?

I couldn't help myself and sent him a text:
Me: Your "CBR" looks a lot like a VTR 1000. In fact it looks exactly like mine.
Seller: Ya i just look that up it is vtr1000 it has 4 cylinders
Me: Really? My VTR has 2, just like every other VTR or Firestorm in the world.
Seller: Ok you are right i got it in a trade its my vtx that has 4 i know i put 4 spark plug in something
Me: So it's not a "CBR", it's not "board" out to 1300, it's not a 98, it doesn't have 2500 on the motor since rebuild. Is there any truth to your ad?
Me: Those fairings aren't custom either.
Seller N is a 98 and then so it was 1100 so now it IS a 1200 the i know the shop that did it
No, VTRs are 996cc, there is not enough meat in the jugs to bore it out that much. As a 98 it must have the electronic fuel injection right?
Seller: No it has two carbs and so what is it
Me: Yep it's a VTR
Will continue.......

sometimes manufacturers use more than one spark plug for fuel mileage or reliability, not just performance. My 2001 ford ranger is a 4 cylinder with 8 spark plugs and I have to say... it isn't fast. I have heard comments about improving the burn/pressure front of the fuel burn, but I have nothing to really back it up.
Planes often use 2 entire sets of ignition systems to increase reliability, but i doubt that is the case with the motorcycle.
Also... I have had people ask what year my CBR is... too bad it normally confuses me because I would love to mess with them, but instead I sit there with a dumb look on my face or looking for someone else on a CBR...

Now a 1959 Porsche Carrera with dual ignition, that was for performance only.

The engine layout on the VTX engines does not allow for a centrally located sparkplug, such as the VTR. This forces the sparkplug to the edge of the combustion chamber which can lead to flame front issues requiring either excessive ignition advance or low compression to prevent detonation.
The solution is to have a sparkplug on either side of the combustion chamber, cutting the flame front travel requirement in half.
