dead chicken
has any body had probelms with icm or control module if so how does it act i hate to spend big bucks to fix the problem and not actually fix it its a 99 superhawk with 30k on it starts but wont stay running got fuel fire and the timing is right batt is brand new and so is r/r runs on 1 cylinder then two then not at all

ive been down that road ive got tons of fuel the slides in the carbs get all wet make me think ive got too much untill you tap icm with screwdriver then it will run great for a second tap again and it doesnt change a thing next thing you know it dies

Check your wiring to control module and grounds coming off of it.

Pretty fishy that you get it to run well when tapping the icm? Definitely check the grounds. I screwed my icm by hitting the wire harness with a big sharp drill bit.
Only knocked out my tach & a new (used) unit got me back on track. Not cheap to have the stupid stealership diagnose but I was 550miles from home so had to cave

thanks for the ideas ill check grounds and wiring i have all ready total rebuilt cards no pluged up jet or stuck floats this all started when my r/r took a crap (thread not starting )ive fixed that problem i think cant make it run long enough to check charge rate could the over chargeing problem fry my icm and is there any way to test icm itself?

Uh, like I said, you have to go to the stealership to have it diagnosed. (its not a simple affair, have you seen the plug?)
Beyond that you could plug in a working unit & see if problem is solved, BUT you risk frying the good unit of your ex-friend by doing so.
Kind of high stakes in my book, and I have 2 VTRs. Didnt want to risk need 2 units.....
You should put a voltmeter across the battery and check voltage off then running (even if brief)

none of my close friends are smart enough to own a superhawk so i dont have to worrie about that ill check my wiring really good and see what happens will i get an proper voltage reading even thought it runs on one cylinder more often than not?

Yes. What you are checking is battery standing voltage vs what the RR is allowing to be put into the system. You hope that the bike is charging while running so the voltage should go up. The stator is spinning at the same speed regardless of how many cylenders are spinning it so you should read some charge. (but not extreme charge)

ok ive checked the connections for the coils nice and clean now nice and tight still wont run after just a few trys at starting it kills batt so while its charging (overnight) do you guys have any more ides things to try im pulling out my hair and i dont have much to spare (do any of you brillant superhawk lovers live near napa Ca ) my buddies love it when it doesnt run and hate it when it does

i would imagine the cranking power would be way stronger than needed.can it be done, yes.
i have done it,but with like a small honda civic size battery just to check it long enough to get a good reading.
but be very cautious, dont let anything touch anything else, dont ask me how i know its bad lol

SOlDER JOINT
Your problem could be a cold or lose solder joint.
I have never opened one but if you open it and check
for lose or cold discolored joints. Then re solder them
your problem may go away.
