Hey there everybody. I had an accident on my 98' hawk about 2 months ago, nothing major just a broken handle bar and some scraped knees among other minor damages. I was able to limp the bike back to my garage where I've been working on it here and there when I've found time to. Everything has been going as planned until last night when I was finishing up the last bit of necessary repairs (cosmetic issues aside), I bolt the fairings back on and get ready to go for a ride when I hit the ignition switch and nothing happens. I've tried with two different batteries, checked the fuses, made sure the starter and starter relay weren't crazy corroded, and yes my killswitch was turned off. I'm leaning toward replacing the starter relay as there isn't any "click" when i press the ignition. It just seems odd that it would go out all of the sudden after sitting still for a couple weeks. Anyone else run into any similar experiences?

All that being said, any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping i just overlooked something as im not the most mechanically inclined, especially when it comes to the electrics.

Do you have a test meter or test light?

Without that its really just a expensive parts swapping guessing game

 

Did you check the main fuse? That would do it.
Also if the clutch switch was pulled lose it wouldn't start. Or the sidestand switch coulda been damaged or disconnected. Or put a screwdriver or pliers across the starter relay to see if it starts or turns over. If it does then you know one of the kill switches is preventing starting. Check all your connectors too.

 

First thing I'd check is that the starter switch is connected securely after your off in and doing its job - As mentioned a multimeter is the tool you need to see what's going on or not.

Which side went down?

 

1$ says you broke a safety switch. Clutch, neutral, or sidestand.
