car/bike comparison

This is kinda a silly question, but what the hell. If a Ducatti is to bikes, what Ferrari is to cars, and GSXR are to bikes what a Supra is to cars, where do our beloved SH fall? Now I know that super bikes = super cars, and the Bird is pretty damn quick but not fast compare to the others. Are we like the 89-93 5.0 mustang of bikes. Quick, torque, fun as hell but not really fast. Just a random thought on my way home today.

we couldn't be the mustangs, everyone's heard of a Mustang

we're probably more like turbo Daytona's, wicked fast little sleepers that not everyone knows about

I'd say we're more like the Buick GN's. Somewhat anonymous, but those who know, they KNOW.

Buick GNs ran mid to high 13s in the quarter. About the same as a 1973 Yamaha TX500 twin or a mid '80s XL600. Whoopie!

Good VTRs will run high 10s or 11 flat. If you find a guy with ANY car which can do that, you can bet your *** that he spent more on engine mods than you did on your bike.

+1 on the Grand National... I wanted to come up up with a more favorable car to use as the SH's "car world equivilent", but unfortunately, I think that is it.

Dont get me wrong.. the GN was sweet... but it was still a Monte Carlo boxy body, with that 80's motif interior, and a V6... A turbo'ed V6, but still a V6.

I don't think the OP was referring to quarter mile times.

after hearing about all the cam chain failures,i would think more along the lines of PINTO!

serious though,i think 5.0 mustang sums it up.
torque and fun to ride.

I'd throw the Austin Healey on the list (I'm biased ) Kinda rare. Torquey motor. Competitive in it's day, damn sexy. Oh, and a blast to drive on twisty mountain roads.

If the GN, doesn't quite do it for some, then lets say GNX. More hp, more torque.

Like someone said, kinda known but not really, but those that know, love them.

I like the daytona turbo one. Maybe Omni GLHS, dodge conquest tsi....any of those sleeper dodges from the 80's with honkin turbos under the hood that no one saw coming.

The problem with that analogy is with dual aftermarket pipes the superhawks bark may be louder than its bite. Maybe the latest model GTO. Big displacement, not too discrete but handles pretty well too.

I like the Grand National comparison. You could also compare to the Impala SS of the late 90's. The 5.0 Mustangs are a little too cheezy for a Super Hawk comparison.

my vote is for the 5.0 fox body mustang. i agree the mustang name is more widely known than the SH but the 'stang was kind of slow for what it was out of the box..needed some work to really make it scream. Like someone already said though...a blast to drive. 5.0's might not be the prettiest girls at the bar, but its the one you want to take home and beat on a few times....wait...i think my loose sex metaphor just turned into a domestic abuse comment. oh well.

its tough to put a car on a motorcycle deemed "sport touring" there is not really a car catogory fo that.

Again, not what I think the OP meant... not technically speaking, but more of a metaphorical comparison.

my vote is for the buick GN or GNX, because not many people know about them and with a little bit of work you can make them pertty quick.

Mustangs are to abundant to be used in this comparison...

IMO, Mustangs and Camaros go to the Harley crowd.. Bought for a status symbol.

Buick GNs ARE well known. You all know about them. Just cause they look like grandmas daily driver doesn't mean that there arn't a lot of people out there that can recognize the boxy black beauty and the sound of a big turbo on a six.

Heres a good one: Pontiac boneville SUPERCHARGED...thats the ticket boys

Anyone that has been alive for longer than 20 years knows that the GN or GNX had the hidden turbo on top of a 3.8L V6. still more glitter than the SH by comparison.

I would have to agree with Central Coaster on the TA, it had the rumble of it's V8 and would out corner any Mustang or GN.

I'm gonna go with the firechicken...

I didnt mean it that way (in a serious way, that is).. I meant they want a "go fast" looking car but cant afford a 'vette or anything more... So they buy a v6 camaro.. or mustang..

My remark about it being a status symbol was tongue in cheek..

but the Firebirds WERE also TOO well known.. You need to find a "cult"ish car, that was a more than decent performer, and had lasting looks..

No way on the GN's that would be giving the Hawk too much credit. The GN/GNX in its day were the fastest production car on the planet. In my area's dragstrip (Englishtown raceway) GN's in near stock format would tear up Corvette's.

The Hawk is older technology more brutish not slow by any means but not superfast... how about a Ford Taurus SHO?

What about the Javelin? I always wanted one because they were as good as the rest but no as known. I love when people have to ask what it is, especially if you just smoked them on a twisty road.
