the bike went to the mechanic the first night i had it(last night). he'll have the a new air filter, plugs, brake and clutch fluid, coolant, cam chain tension check, maybe some playing with the jetting, and a general check up done.
then i'll have to do some mods.
the bike was laid down and i'll need new signal lights.
i'd like bar risers.
hand grips.
lower foot pegs?
any other suggestions?

APE manual CCT's might be worth looking into to save your engine depending on how many miles you got on it. Also being in Canada you may or may not have R/R issues as they overheat and kill batteries. (we who live where it is hot have to replace our R/R with either a newer finned unit or a Yamaha/Suzuki one)

mods - this afternoon it rained. no riding so my neighbor and i tinkered with the new vtr.
chopped the rear fender. took the stalk off the rear signal lights. hardened up the suspension. cleaned, lubed and adjusted the chain.
good bonding time.

Well welcome aboard. I've got one of them yeller ones too. You say you've had Gixers. I had a '91 1100, I may get bashed here for saying this, but that thing seemed to have way more torque than the SHawk. Used to call it the time machine. Not nearly as cool sounding though .

You won't get bashed by me. Your 91 GSX-R 1100 had more torque than a VTR, and put it out at fairly low rpm; it would spank a Superhawk. The current crop of inline 4 literbikes have quite a bit more torque than the Hawk as well, and will run away from the Hawk at nearly any engine or road speed.

yup, i had a string of gixxers. currently i have a 2005 gsxr1000. it's a different beast, and yes, much morr powerful than the vtr. the vtr has power but it out shines the gixxer in a few areas, namely sound and comfort. they are both great bikes. each time i ride i will choose the one i'm in the mood for. i'm fortunate.

i don't know what oil came in the bike. i am going to put motorex 10w40 semi synthetic in asap.

now i need to figure out what type of chain to get. i will use the search function!

looks like a 520 gold chain. i think i'll go with 15/41 sprockets.

now i'm going to look for front signal lights.

Fair warning, any oil questions here are just baiting...but what kind of tires do you prefer...
