Best Year?
Best Year?
Apart from the digital instrument cluster and (perhaps) inproved CCT's, are there any other significant improvements in the newer Superhawks from the earlier models? I am looking to buy a used one and am wondering which model years are the best.
Also, what year did Honda go to the newer instrument cluster?

they probably produced more of that year, since it was pretty popular when it first came out, then they started declining in sales, so they produced fewer and fewer....dunno, just a thoeory...I have a 99' and it's alright...it is still the fastest color though, so
Not the year or colour
I'm glad to be able to clear up some of the misinformation being circulated here. We Canadians recieved the Firestorm model for years which most knowledgeable people know is slighly quicker than the Superhawk models. The Firestorm has a different intake system, different jetting, a slightly different ingnition module, less restricted exhaust giving it about 10 more horsepower and 4 ft.lbs of torque. An added bonus from the ignition module is that there is a change in the rev. limiter allowing a top end of 163 mph.As a clergyman you of course understand I would never lie to you.

2000 model here. I think these bikes have an extremely loyal following - when I bought it new I would not have imagined it still being my primary bike with all the advances in design and performance the past 5-10 years. But its a great real-world bike.

Another vote for the early release 1998 model. The earliest bikes usually made a bit more power than later models- in the 104 to 105 range stock. When Roadracing World's rider on the March, 1997 intro ride veered off the preplanned route he took the bike to White Bros. dyno where it pulled 104.6 vs. 111.6 for the also new TL1000S. In comparable gear roll-ons the lower HP Superhawk outpulled the overdog TL1000S. Honda has done this before, letting a first year model establish performance credentials, and then very subtly detuning, refining, and polishing subsequent models.
Yes they have. I remember the magazines found this out on the CB900F. My '93 Civic EX coupe was gifted the same way. Many '93s were noticeably stroonger than the next year or two.
