Back on the Hawk

So just over 6 weeks ago I bravely woke up in the hospital after a mile high high side breaking 8 ribs and my scapula (all same side)

Last week on vacation I started mountain biking to get strength back, then this week I am back on the street commuting from Queens to Brooklyn.

Actually laughing in my helmet the first 2 days of liberation to get that feeling back.

Very blessed to be back on the street this soon, not quite track ready yet but could do it. (Except I have a field of riders gunning to beat me so want to wait for full fitness)

Anyway. Just wanted to share how it happened for me. Breaking a bunch of painful bones only keeps you off your bike about 6ish weeks assuming you were mountainbiking daily and working out.

So happy to be back in the saddle.....

Good on you for getting back in saddle SmokinJoe!

Keep riding while you can. There'll be plenty of time to reminisce later.

Sorry to here about your mishap Joe.

Best thing to do is get back on with it.

Hope you enjoy the ride , heavens knows I have done it enough times but mainly Off Road for me.

Take it easy till fully healed.. a second crash partially healed is worse.

Great news SmokinJoe! Carry on!!

Glad to hear you are up and at em!

But take it slow Joe. It's better to wait until nearly fully healed, as old bodies don't mend as quickly and break rather than bend versus young ones.

Yes for sure. I mountainbiked first, then slow rides, then commuting which is pretty tame, all on super familiar roads.

Weird to not ride for 6 weeks. I was going into depression.

Not ready for the racetrack yet.
