To add some more info (Or is that confusion?) on oil filters
 

First and foremost...don't come knocking on my door to sue me if for some unknown reason your 'Hawk explodes because of my post. I generally shoot first and ask questions later. :fawkdance:

I work at a small 3 bay car repair garage and decided to look up in our book to see if there was a listing for the Superhawk. We use Atlas brand oil filters, which are produced by Wix. Fairly decent stuff IMHO, not $15 a piece filters, but not Dollar General stuff either. The filter # for the 'Hawks oil filter is M-33, with the long verison being M-36. I know from first hand expeirence that the M-33 and M-36 are used pretty frequently on Honda cars. I have read many times of people using the longer filter with slight modification to the chin protector thing. I cannot personally verify this, but I hope to in the next few days. Some quick specs on the filter:

Thread: M20x1.5
OD: 2-21/32 (67.5)
Length: 2-5/8 (66.7)

Fits: '92-97 Ford, 2000- On Honda, '99 on Infiniti, 94- on Kia, '80 on Mazda, '90-'96 Mercury, '95 on Nissian, '87-94 Subaru automotive, light duty trucks, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha motorcycles.

Now obviously, the M-33 filter doesn't fit every engine and model listed above. That's just saying that on those particular cars, one of the engines put in one of their models of cars uses that filter. Don't expect to ask the counter guy for an oil filter for a '92-97 Ford and have it be the right one!!

OK...now that we have some basic stuff covered, onto the cross referencing. There is a metric shit ton of brands I could have gotten, but to ensure my sanity didn't expire today I just browsed through and picked some of the ones I thought would be more common at the local auto-parts stores. If for whatever reason any of you would need a tranny, air, or oil filter cross referenced, let me know.

I don't know why exactly Wix has two part #'s for the same filter, but whatever. Again...take this for what it's worth. This thread is definitely NOT something to hold higher than your own common sense. I don't want to be blamed for any blown engines! I read some discussions about if car filters would be OK for the 'Hawks, I really don't see why they wouldn't be. If anyone has any doubt, I'll be "aquiring" a M-33 and M-36 filter from work this weekend when I change out my bikes blood and will be sure to report back. Until then, ride safe, ride strong, and most importantly, ride fast. :cool:

Purlator L14620
 

I have been running the Purlator L14620 for a couple of years (after trimming the chin fairing slightly) and have had no problems. Its rated highly and available for about $6.

I also have used Mobil 15W-50 synthetic for many years on all my bikes. When did a leak-down test on my NT650 before I sold it (wish I hadn't) with 60,000+ miles, it measured about 5% or less!

Damn, and I though my table with oil viscosities was sensory overload.... :)

Nope..not about oil. At least not this time. :lol: I just did a oil change on her yesterday, using the standed filter (Not the longer filter). Everything fit perfect, and topped her off using rotella oil. If you guys ever need a cheap drain pan, use one of the old rotella gallon jugs! I just cut about a 4x6 hole (nothing scientific) on the side of it, set it down on its side and walla! A drain pain that fits under the oil pan perfectly. Note: It is alot less messier if you remember to put the cap back on the bottle. And...since it holds a gallon of oil, it holds just enough to get all the old stuff out! The oil in the bike was just changed when I bought it a few months back, but I was unaware of what kind - so I decided to put in some good blood that has been highly recommended by the forum!
