Acrylic adhesives
Anyone here familiar with these? They are being increasingly used in the palce of welding and fasteners to hold parts together in the auto and aviation industry. Polaris`newest snowmobile (RUSH 600) makes use of it in its frame. It is said to be stronger than welding and can be dissolved for ease of replacement.
More to the point, I was wondering about the possibility of bracing up the steering head area of the VTR frame (recommendaton by Roger Ditchfield) and was wondering if, rahter than having a brace welded in place, I could simply glue it?
cheers

I would guess that if you can control the bond thickness and surface area, you could approach the strength of welding. But acrylic has nohwere near the modulus of elasticity, or tensile strength of aluminum, so you could not expect to simply replace a weld with a glue joint and expect the same strength. You would need much more bonded surface area.
