98' Superhawk w/ 30K

Newbie here,

I have been looking for a sport adventure type bike for awhile now. I want something to commute on and ride a little with the guys on the weekends. I have had a few GSXR's and I know that I really do not want that now. I need something that gets decent fuel mileage (@45 MPG) at a highway pace but I would also like something sporty to set me back when I want it.

I am looking at a 98' Superhawk that has 30K on it. Should I be worried about anything? Anything special to look for? It is really clean in the pictures. I am going to go look at it tomorrow PM. I have a MX bike that he is going to look at for trade.

You can see it on e-bay, item # - 180137423012

What do you guys think that it is worth?

Regulator / Rectifier can crap out easily. Also, the cam chain tensioners are notoriously short-lived.

I've never got 45 mpg on the Superhawk. Ever. Maybe 37 going downhill and cruisin'.

mine has 30,000 miles on it now. Have replaced the r/r & the cam chain tensioners. other than that just the normal wear and tear items. I get about 35-37 miles per gallon.................

Thanks for the replies on what to look for. When would you think that a teardown-piston relacement, would be needed?

On the fuel mileage, I know that it will be very linear to the right wrist as far as MPG goes. At least it has been that way on my other bikes. My CRF450R can get as high as 70 miles on 1.8 gal or as low as 45. It just depends on how much I am in the main.

In regards to fuel mileage, I am finding that on the highway, its mid 30's at best. Thats just loafin' it. The mileage is a weak link on these bikes unfortunately. On other bikes I could tune it for mileage, but I think on the superhawk your drivebility would go to crap (hell, might not improve the mileage either)
