1998 SuperHawk Restoration
1998 SuperHawk Restoration
Hi all, I own a 1998 SuperHawk with 40K miles on the clock and I'm thinking about restoring the bike back to its former glory and I'm looking for advice from those who have completed similar projects.
My main concern with the current condition of the bike is with the wiring harness, which is in a terrible state. The previous owner('s) made a mess of the harness by splicing all kinds of LED lights and other nonsense, which has been a process to remove. How difficult would it be to install a new harness?
The other concern I have is with the engine itself. I don't believe the CCT has ever been replaced and I would like to do this even though the bike has reached 40K miles and is probably good, but I don't want to assume.
Other upgrades I would like to do is install a superbike/sport looking rear subframe, inverted forks and fabricate a 2 into 1 exhaust, any thoughts or suggestions on these three would be appreciated.
Given the current state of the bike, is this a project that you feel would be warranted, and better yet if you have a price breakdown for the parts to justify your answer that would be appreciated... Or should I just look for another example of a 1000cc V-Twin Japanese sport bike which there are unfortunately already very few of? I would do all the work myself and time is not a factor however if this project's costs start to exceed $2K I think I would part ways with the bike.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Ive got 10 grand invested in my 'Hawk and that included the cost of the bike.
For me all the work will be rewarded with a bike you never see where I live and the looks and double takes will be worth all the work and effort.
Oh did I mention the thrill of riding the masterpiece you produced?
Seriously take your time, invest wisely, and if you really love this bike you will be rewarded.
Good luck and I'm sure others will chime in with similar endorsements to get it done. 👍🙏🏽🤙
