How to set up your avatar..
1) Go to a free web-space site on the internet like "imagestation"
and create an account.
2) Upload the avatar of your choice to it.
3) Link to it in your profile page on here.
That's how I do it.. See, here's my link:

Some direct uploads work for me, others give me the error. I made some changes according to the phpBB website, but still doesn't work.
I guess I can't really complain with the software being Freeware and all
