Why New York CIty roads suck....

Was enjoying a quick ride back home when starting to pick up speed to merge onto the Henry Hudson in Manhattan.... looked over my shoulder to make sure there wasn't traffic in the right lane and WHAM!!!! Steering was like I was on ice and was shaking all over the place.... luckily I didn't panic or use the brakes.... slowed gradually and got to the side of the road...

I thought I blew the forks out untill I saw both tires flat and both rims bent pretty good..... wound up having to drive both flats back to my house 15 miles away... 10 miles an hour in first gear on busy city streets looking like a complete moron.... figured with the rims shot, wasn't gonna do anymore damage... and the last time I broke down on a Sunday nobody would tow me anyway.... this really sucks...

That's terrible, looks like you hit an open manhole!
Do you recall what air pressure you were running?
Not that it would have made much differance.

Re: Why New York CIty roads suck....

Yeah... this blows....

The air pressure was, if not, very close... to the stock Honda suggestions (36 F / 43 R) from what I recall.... I think the reason it smashed the rims is that I was leaned over a bit turning onto the highway.... I'm guessing the suspension couldn't absorb the hit becuase the forces weren't "perpedicular" to the suspension travel, that and with tire flex just left the rim edge to take the force of the hole.... and the lovely result. I've hit some nasty hole before head on, and aside from thinking I need a mouth piece, I've been OK....

And as for the city.... just pisses me off that I pay 2.50 each way to drive on that damn road!!! Figure they could partially fill in the craters for the money they rake in!!!!
