I just googled it: First adjustment at 600 miles, 2nd at 7500, then every 12,000 after that.

Not so bad, but Ducati mechanics like to charge your first born on top of an arm and a leg.

Did you go to the new California Academy of Sciences? I noticed the structure behind that beautiful 1098. Great purchase. Some day I'll end up selling my Superchicken for a Duc or chopper.

did you demo the 848??? I'm really curious in the differences between the two as street bikes (not on track).

congrats man!

update

So yeah, service intervals are 600, 7500, 12k. Service costs shouldn't be too expensive. I'm going to compare prices at various dealerships when I get to that point. I did not try out the 848 as I wanted a bike with at least the same displacement as the SuperChicken (no substitute for displacement as they say). The 848 just doesn't have as much low end torque. I think the SuperChicken has more torque than the 848. The 848 is probably sufficient for the street, but so is a Ninja 250R :] I love the power delivery of the 1098. You can be in any gear on the freeway and it has plenty of pickup.

I don't remember exactly what the torque specs were for the 848, but I know it make 136 hp. given that its a 90 dergee Vtwin, it should have at least as much torque as the hawk. and in a lighter and smaller package.

848 makes 134 hp, I rode one on the track (at press launch in Spain) and LOVED it. Great bike, much more forgiving (power-wise) than the big-bores

It has 70 ft pound of torque so nearly identical to the hawk, but with some serious top end gains and many pounds less than our chickens.

Nice bike, Tapatio! What are the mods aside from the pipes and seat?

(Clue the rest of us in on 'the 8.')

So is it comfy? I've never sat on one. I'm afraid if I move "up" from the Superhawk I'm going to have a hard time finding anything as comfortable.

I think "the 8" is referring to to the thread where he explains how the superchicken got totaled. I am assuming it is the highway he was on.

The 8 in Mission Valley (San Diego) is a clusterfuck, with drivers coming from all directions as they dive for offramps.

Hey tapatio, were those pics you posted taken in Golden gate park in SF? you from SF? Is your riding wear light green? I saw a 1098 that looked exactly like yours screaming down 101 past the cow palace exit in Brisbane/Daly City today....

The 1098 is definitely not comfortable (but it doesn't really matter, when you're on it, its heaven). The Superchicken is a bit more comfy and by that I mean a more upright seating position. The angle on the 1098 seat / tail section pushes ones body onto the gas tank but its definitely a good riding position for taking corners and what not. Also, the exhaust pipes definitely heat up the seat and my legs. The bike seems to run pretty hot. I definitely would not use this as a commuter bike or daily ride. Its more of something to take out on nice twisty roads or a track to enjoy.

One thing I've noticed is that I find myself starring at this thing often. It just looks really sweet (especially in person). I just picked up some ducati condoms in case my friend's bikes try and rape her.

Oh and I'm not in SF. I'm in SD and those pics were from Balboa Park. I'd like to ride in SF some time, I think there's a lot of Superchickens out there (at least there was on Craigslist).

Love most Duc looks - but cost to maintain is just too fooking much.

I'll stick to my VTR thank U
