"Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented immigrant" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist.

Same way down here. Some places aren't even worth going anymore. Can't read the sign's or speak the language, don't need to be there.

I say learn the f-in language to the country you are going to live in. This is one of the only countries that directions come in 10 different languages.

Actually, in most countries, directions/signs/billboards come in multiple languages.

The US has always been a melting pot of a country, and while there should be stiffer tests for English during immigration, the only feasible requirement is that you speak English if you're in a government-paid position, local and up. Granted, its annoying to walk into a McDonald's and listen to your order shouted back in a language other than your own (and God knows I get pissed about that too), but until the bill regarding immigration and making English the official language, nothing can be really done, except pissing and moaning.

And you're most definetly right, turning a blind eye is absolutely idiotic, but then again, so is making blanket statements and being as ignorant about relating issues as illegals are of the language.

Late disclaimer: My last comment is in no way aimed at anyone here, just making my own blanket statement

Hell, Part of the problem is that too many Americans don't even speak English!! um, Real Americans, the ones that are citizens, and pay taxes, and have jobs, that give something back to this fair country that has allowed them the opportunity to live free...

I agree whole heartedly, in some of the area's around the Atlanta you would have to be fluent in at least five different languages, and multiple dialects of each language to even be able to half assed communicate with anyone. Learn the language of the country you are in at least out of respect of the ones that have gone before to give you the opportunity to have the freedom's of this country. If you can't learn the language, go home.

The problem is with US and OUR expectations. We have a vocal & powerful group of people on both sides of the political spectrum who are taking advantage of this situation.They will not learn English until WE expect... no, demand, that they do. They will work illegally as long as business interests, and left leaning political interests make it tenable to do so.Both groups are creating a new underclass in this country.Personally, I don't care where you come from (hey, I like variety), or what your native language is, but you cannot succeed in any society if you don't learn the language.

I thought it was funny after spending a year in Kuwait and Iraq that half of them speak better English than half of the people in America.

Illegal aliens don't need to learn English. They need to go home.

If you returned home from vacation to find people had broken into your home and were living in it, would you have them arrested?

Or would you offer to teach them to speak English?

MarineHawk;

Making blanket statements about foreign born people who came here legally for the express purpose of becoming Americans is ignorant.

But there are certain blanket statements about illegal aliens we should all agree on.

My favorite is from the late Congressman Sonny Bono in response to a media question;

"What do you mean 'what do I think about illegal immigration?'. It's illegal isn't it?"

Illegals speak english just fine. For the most part, it benefits them to act like they don't. Especially in dealing with gov't entities like the police, etc. You can always bait them into showing their hand.... if i have contact with them and they are pulling the "i don't speak english" card on me i usually can get them to **** up.... ill tell my parter, "dude, that guy just dropped a 20$ bill when he got out of his car. when he leaves im taking it." they will start looking around for the money that they heard me talk about and i just say "AHA!". It benefits them to play dumb, for the most part, though.

But you know the old joke... What do an illegal and a cue ball have in common?

...the harder you hit it the more english you get.
