Figured I'd see if anyone had experience with this bike. Can't seem to stray away from the V-twins!

Bike is in good but not amazing condition... needs new tires but fluids and everything check out. Seems to be well taken care of... shaft drive should be fun. I will probably be commuting a lot in this bike if I get it. The catch is that it has 50k miles on it. Not too much online about the bike, although it seems like they can go 80k without many problems.

I looked at it yesterday... kid is asking 1K, think i'll offer $700 considering the mileage and that it needs tires.

Anyone have good or bad stories to tell?

 

I used to own one. PM me and I can give you all the details you'd like, but in short, I found it to be a fun bike to ride. There are a few things to look out for. Fork suspension is poor and needs upgrade to ride in a more spirited fashion. I replaced springs with progressives, but I think it could have benifited from valves too. If you can have a chance to remove the rear wheel, check the driveline splines. they are known to wear poorly on some bikes. Mine never had a problem though.

The real negative to the bike is it's age and lack of popularity. Finding parts can be problematic. You'll find the steering slugish and slow compared to our hawks. On the plus side, at high speeds, it was rock-stable.

there's a VX800 forum with lots of good folks and advice, but I've found it very slow in the past year or so becuase there just aren't many on there any more.
