I hear you. I am still on this - still haven't found a frameset I like riding better though I've changed components over the past 10 years.

Nice, Kestrel was way out front in the carbon fiber revolution...hard to believe that's 10 yrs old and looks a lot like today's models.

i got a MTN bike but no pics....nothing special. i just wanted to get into it again with a starter bike. i just balk at the prices of bicycle parts in Toronto. i badly need to upgrade my front works and rims....its a full suspension bike but to be honest i'd rather have a hard tail but i couldnt find any for a good price. its got disk brakes so upgrading the rims will be a bit harder. oh and the frame sucks too....i think i might just give it to my brother and start fresh a bit down the road.

I bought a Specialized Hardrock back in February. Just getting into the sport and had no idea how much it's progressed since way back in high school. I have to say though, for an entry level bike, it has taken a ton of abuse and is still kickin. I now want either a Gary fisher 29er or a specialized rockhopper. I'll toss up some pics when I get home

Wow, a hard tail...Ouch, my back hurts.

I've got a KHS XC704r, with Rock Shox Sid air forks and rear shock. It suits me fine for single track and moderate downhill that my wife and I like to ride.

I seriously need to put some new shocks on mine. Ive adjusted them back and forth so much, they wont adjust anymore. I was looking at full suspension bikes, but didnt have the 1500 bucks for the one i liked.

No pics but I spend at least 100 miles a week on my trek. I have a big tail pannier for groceries or tools, etc. You guys need one of these carriers. Saw this while rebuilding my new sv650 race/street project

okay i'm in...begins long ago, mom never let me have the dirt bike or go cart or 4 wheeler growing up that I always wanted. So instead I would spend about 16 hours a week on a bicycle when I was in high school. that was my thing. I owned a old early 90's hard rock, then a 98 fischer kaitai. I worked at a kennel just so I could buy it is mod it up. started doing trials and xc racing on it. few years later bought a klien full suspension and got into xc big time. sold the kaitai and the klien, bought a kona stinky to start doing downhill racing. It was a light duty downhill/freeride, orange and black, 6 inch travel front and rear, 8 inch rotors. lol I thought that thing was the best, I was positive it was going to last me forever just by how beefy it looked. 8 months later i taco'd the front wheel, and bent the frame on the bottom tube just behind the stem on a ditch doing a spirited ride with a room-mate from school in NC. had to walk it the rest of the 2 miles down the hill on the rear wheel so i could catch a bus back to campus. sooo miserable! the replacement, and my last bike, was a trek desiel. i bought that cause the frame had a little more substance to it, also had 10 lbs on the stinky. went through 2 fork rebuilds (boxxer race forks suck.) oh and one front wheel. Thing was great. most solid frame i've ridden, the worst though was the "pedal-bob" cause it was a single pivot swingarm..that was a blast. anyway sold it to a buddy for $400 to feed my hawk, she was hungry for a new rear shock...all i have to share is the generic online pic... heres a link to my favorite run at highland mountain bike park in concord NH:

I'm more of a roadie, carbon TREK that I'm ashamed to say cost almost as much as my Hawk. I used to put 10k a year on it but I spent this summer on the KTM and HAWK. I ride a Specialized hardtail on the trails but my back can't take the punishment anymore. Awesome way to train though.

Ironic isn't it, both my road bike & MTB cost more than the SH did...so I paid more for pain then pleasure!

I got one of these as a lightly used demo. I has the Fox 32 VAN, rather than the TALAS. I like a coil spring.

I wasn't going to do it, but then I rode it...
Made a lowball offer and he took it, so I tossed it in the truck.

Good stuff. I have a specialized fsr, and sadly after going all the time haven't gone in a long time. But thankfully my best friend and I are starting again this week. Believe it or not there are a couple really cool parks and mountainbike trails here in south florida with alot of **** I won't even TRY to do anymore. My streetbike is a cannondale bad boy and I love that bike. If I get a chance I'll post up some pics.

man, thanks for the offer, but i def am not looking for anything in that price range.

i'm not looking so much for a full out mountain bike as more of a hybrid. a mountain bike frame but the bike geared more toward paved trails...

i just dont spend anywhere near enough time on the bike or use it to it full potential to warrant a $1K and up bike....my price range falls way below that...

but there are some ridiculous bikes out there...just stand there in awe...

I met an older guy (65) on the boat from Saint John to Digby this summer who was riding across Canada. He was on his 66th day. Started the ride in BC where he was visiting his son. Decided to sell his plane ticket home, bought a bike and some camping gear and rode back to Nova Scotia. He hadn't ridden in years but rode alot when he was younger. It's never too late to enjoy two wheeling.
