If you bought a new 2005 year model bike tommorrow and the deal was it had to last you 10 years , cost under 9k and you had to use it for both primary transportation AND twistie fun , cruising fun and long distance vacations ...

Lasting 10 years means you are stuck with it that long

What would you buy if Super Hawks were not available ?

Don't be shy :P

I think I might spring for a 2005 ZZR600

Wow, 10 years is a LONG time...

I'd go with a Honda F4i. Cream of the B-group 600s. Or a SV650S.

The hard part is the under 9K. Thats the hardest part of the whole question.

I'd probably say

05 SV 1000
Triumph Daytona (not sure of there price)

I was just thinking easy on tires , great fuel range on the 600 + they are fairly fast . My Son's 1995 ZX6E honks it on pretty well .

The 2005 SV1000S has some good things going for it over the previous years . Main bearings don't knock for one  Thats probably the way I would go come to think of it . At holeshot.com Dale has some drive-by clips of his exhaust on the SV , sounds nice !

This new left over 2003 silver SV1000S can be bought for 6300.00 out the door

This is the Honda/Suzuki shop that cut me such a deal on my VTR .

Just dreaming a bit

Yamaha FZ1 Not the character of a V-twin, but just as multipurpose as the Superhawk.

given the 9k limit on price, and no superhawk, I would have to go with FZ1 as my first choice, followed by ZRX1200 as second.

Okay, I'll bite... I rather like the Buell XB12S @ $10,495 MSRP. At 395# dry, 103hp/84tq and short wheelbase, would be a hoot to ride.

Re: If you bought a new bike tommorrow what would it be?

There was a bike I saw in the show room last year that caught my eye above all others and I felt guilty about liking it so much because it was a late 70's or early to mid 80's design.

It was a brand new 20 or 25th anniversay special edition"old school" Kawasaki GPZ 1300 or KZ 1300 or something. My buddy said it was to comemorate the bike that some famous Kawasaki racer rode. I cant find a picture of it anywhere on the net. The metalic green color and all the attention to detail was absolutely gorgeous. It looked like it had a ton of race parts on it.

I am

I knew someone here new what it was. Great to see a picture. The style may not be everyone's cup of tea but it should be seen in person. The picture doesn't do it justice.

Thanks!

I don't know if this counts, but I've got my eye on a left over 2005 Buell XB12S. They have it marked at $9495 right now, so I'm pretty sure I could get it for less than $9000. When I buy stuff I keep it for at least 6 years, so suffice to say I feel that it will meet my longevity requirements. That's not to say there won't repairs to do sometime...

Problem with some of these suggestions is they aren't long distance bikes as you request. Oh sure, any bike can go long distance, but some do better than others and are still a hoot in the curves.

Will endorse a suggestion made in this thread. The CBR1100XX. Can't buy a new one, but there are still some in the crate here and there, and one can get a low mile one for $6K. Honda hit a home run with this thing. These are 100,000 mile bikes. I have some nice horses in the barn. Some have come and gone. The '99 XX remains. It is still a top shelf bike. If Honda quality offers some appeal, if canyons and across the country is the destination, if you want no reliability woes, put this bike on the short list.

9k is a tough price to keep it under....most of the bikes mentioned by you guys are over that price to begin with unless youre talkin used. so I am gonna go with a used VFR maybe a 1995 then take the other 5k and trick the **** out of it!! 600cc is way too small so that puts a serious dent in the amount of choices right off the bat. must be the fact that i would be shopping in Santa Monica, CA...and there isnt anything there for under 9K
