Hey all,

I need a job. I've been working for www.pulloutshelf.com for over 4 years now in Denver. I LOVE my job, and as sick as it sounds, I love working too.

The Economy is practically shutting us down. I need to do something else. I've been procrastinating until now. Anyone need someone to employ in Denver?

I've worked with kitchen cabinet retrofits (present), garage doors and automated gates, plumbing apprentice for a year, installed security systems for a year, Retail BS when I was younger, I basically love working "in the field" out of a work truck. cruise to a new place everyday and meet new people.

I've just started bugging a company that does solar photovoltaic systems. yay!

I tried at the local Moto gear store, but I feel my personality clashed with the owner, she seemed kinda rude. I might bug her again, but I obviously want more money than that job could pay.

anyhoo, just throwing it out there.

If you've done security systems in times like these there are jobs available. When people get desparate they resort to desparate measures. Car alarms, commercial sites, homeowners, everybody is beefing up to minimize the losses/attempts.

You and me both. Maybe we could start a new category on the site - or something...

certified.

9/2001 – 1/2003 Enterprise Fence of the Carolinas, Inc.; Owner/Operator Profit and loss
responsibilities for small business startup. Materials procurement and supervision of 2
crews of 4 men each for installation of all varieties of commercial, industrial and
residential fencing.

8/1999 – 9/2001 KCI Tower Systems, Inc.; Field Supervisor Primary duties included supervision of all aspects of communications tower industry activities: profit and loss for 7 man crew, civil engineering, installation of grounding and electrical systems for radio transmitter buildings, trouble-shooting and maintenance of subsystems, radio telecommunications equipment installation, coaxial transmission lines and tower top antennas. Specialized in monopole, guyed and self-supporting tower erection to 500'. Routinely maintained broadcast tower equipment to 2000'. High power radio frequency and high voltage tower lighting certifications.

6/1996 – 8/1999 Tower Guys, Inc.; Field Technician/Supervisor Journeyman position led to most experienced field installer within 6 weeks. Led crew at 6 months. Began unsupervised duties as above at 1 year.


2/1994 – 6/1996 Freeman’s Car Stereo, Inc.; Salesperson/Assistant Manager Full commission sales for aftermarket mobile electrical equipment peaked at $214,764 gross/year. Profit, loss, and operations managers’ duties for 8 installation bay/ 14 person retail store.

5/1993 – 2/1994 Labstaffers, Inc.; Field Technician Contracted to MIDREX Steel Corp. as chemical analysis specialist in the direct reduced iron process. Subsequent lateral responsibilities included mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, prototyping and maintenance for pilot plant activities.

I've been looking for a job in the hvac or electrical fields around greeley. I just got a job at a dispencery in loveland and I love it, but the gettin paid once a month sucks. I need side work.

No no. we only sell to med patients and they have to present their card at the door. I got a new patient yesterday.

Sounds like we grew up in the same area. I graduated highschool in '84 in Alexandria.

Around here, we call them "Ranch Hands".

My daughter and her husband live on and manage a huge horse ranch just up the road in San Marcus,Tx.

I wouldn't mind being a ranch hand if:

the (proxy)owner -son- wasn't in bad cancer remission and iffy on any given day, going through divorce, bankruptcy and fighting w/ the OTHER five nascent owners of his dad's land that have not EVER fed a cow or run a plow and just want a quick windfall when they (impatiently) wait for the codger to die. But 5 years in a front line infantry unit going through WWII toughens a man up, evidently...

I had an interview today that went well! I have another w/ the same company on monday! woo hoo!

Hey all!
I got a job offer! yay!.... now what do I need to discuss with HR? any tips/ advice from someone seasoned? should I counter offer? I've never worked for a company that is this big before.

While I have never worked at a huge outfit, I have prequalified some terms of employment.

In my case being able to take additional extended (unpaid) time off (beyond the normal time off policy) to allow me to visit family in other parts of the world.

Basically be reasonable with your desires, but don't be afraid to ask. In the current economy you probably have less bargaining room than a few years ago.

I can't really offer real solid advice, but I can say congratulations!

I'd say just check out the average salary for your position online somewhere so you know you're in the ballpark.
My personal experience has been bad w/ larger companies. Alot of the time it's like an ocean liner that's moving but no one knows where it's going or even how it's moving....and the further you are from the money man, the less you make and the easier it is to let you go....being that you're employee #314 and not Fred w/ a wife & kids.
Hopefully your experience will be different. Congrats on the job though, don't mean to kill your buzz!

In my opinion the only time you should really counter offer is if you have a competing offer from another company, which gives you "real" leverage. That way if they say no to the counter offer and tell you to screw you still have the other offer on the table. Unless of course the initial offer is low and not competitive compared to what other companies are offering. I would try and get more paid vacation days.

Best case, they say yes to your counter offer and hire you. Worst case they say no to your counter offer and don't higher you.

There's not much room for counter offers in this market unless it's a highly specialized field that your in.

My .02....working for a huge company.
1. You will never be able to make up the $$$$ you potentially leave on the table at the point of hire. So I suggest to negotiate to an acceptable level, knowing that you will not be able to go "back to the well" 6 months from now.....
2. Don't derail a great opportunity for an amount that in the long run does not mean all that much. $5k after taxes comes to about $100 a paycheck......

Bottom Line; congrats and keep us posted.....
