This is hard riding
This is an older video but I still like watching it once in a while. To be young and fearless again? They wad up 2 Hawks in this video. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...80512099685914
Don't you just love how they are laughing after destroying $25k worth of sportbikes? Apparently insurance in the UK is astronomically expensive. Can't imagine why? Fun to watch but what a bunch of knuckleheads...
Shakey is pro, so is Frosty and a couple of the others in various degrees... Doesn't change the fact that they are dumbasses though... Thay can ride, no doubt about that... but they are doing it amongs other less aware and less talented riders... and that's stupid...
Also they match the VTR against two clearly superior bikes and are then mildly surprised when you have to push the VTR to the limit too keep the pace...
And the TLR "running wide" shows they haven't the sense to play with the suspension settings to neutralize it... yeah it's a pig... but once setup proper it's not that bad...

Cause of the crash? Fatigue.
They clearly call the VTR the wheelie monster. If it weren't for the hero feelers, the VTR wouldn't deck out so much.
The Ducati, clearly superior.
I'd take a VTR over a TLR any day. There is a TLR on base, and it looks low and fat. No thanks.
The TLR does have a huge advantage in power over the VTR... It's pushing 135 bhp... With as much or more torque as the VTR... Also the TLR is a proper sportbike, not a "sporttourer"... The springs are on the hard side insted of the sloppy stock springs on the VTR... Again, setup proper it should walk away from the VTR in stock form... The TL1000S is more comparable to the VTR...
Yeah it's fat... And yeah it's a proper pig in corners compared to the nimble VTR...
That means that in this test the VTR is the underdog by a margin... Not saying I'd ever choose the TLR over a VTR... not if ya was paying me to ride it...

I've ridden the 916 and the newer 996 and wouldn't trade my Hawk for either. In the hands of a pro racer, both those bikes would walk away from the Hawk. In my not so capable hands, I consistently lap faster on the Hawk. Now give me a 999/1098 and I may make the trade.
How about an 1198?
I ride with a few Ducati guys who are in tight with the Canadian Ducati Rep. They basically travel around with a trailer full of bikes for ride days and promotion. I've ridden the Hypermotards S and it is not near the bike the KTM 950 is. I hear the 1198 is much better than the 1098. It's hard to believe because that bike is nuts. I hope to get a chance to try one but when reality hits, the maintenance costs will always scare me. They are the same price as the 1098's, may be able to get them cheap this year.
