What in the world did your buddy say, that has you thinking Michigan might be a viable place to move to. From California, no less. Let's see, high unemployment, Gov. Jennifer Grandholm, declining state services, rising taxes, poor roads, rainy summers, long winters, high humidity, mosquitos, few roads worth riding unless you're on a cruiser. Pluses, lots of fresh water. Reconsider, unless your "buddy" is female.......
well I like the being openness of the area and living right on a lake is awesome. looking to try and work for the state. My biggest thing is I need out of california and the other places I have looked into are about the same situation but no lake in my back yard.
Dont leave CA, just leave Oxnard!
Ive lived in MI for 22 yrs and 18 in CA. I would NEVER live back in Michigan agian even if you paid me!
BTW, the Michigan state bird is the mosquito but dont worry about remembering this, you will be reminded every time you walk outside your house living on the lake.

I've lived in Ohio, Arizona, and now Michigan. The only roads I've seen that are worse than Michigan's were in third world countries I was deployed to. I live about 25 min from Lake Orion and it's a cool lil town. Lot's of positives if you are a nature fan, but not much else. Governor Granholm is on the way out, so who knows what's next.
thank you guys for the insight I am doing some research about stuff and trying to figure out exactly what I am gonna do all I know is one thing and thats that I can't afford money or sanity wise to stay in california.

When I lived in Oregon, the state joke was to tell every one that it rained all the time, mostly to keep the Californians out. With Michigan, the state is the joke. I'd be looking at OR, ID, UT, AR, KY, TN, or NC, great riding, and economies that are not based on welfare.
Actually it was a debate between Oregon and Michigan and thank god i found a house in Bend Oregon that I like 10 times better than the one in Michigan for about the same price with a bigger lot.
California is just to expensive and the laws for everything else I enjoy are getting worse so its time to escape..
Emission laws are getting harder for my offroad truck and my diesel, gun laws are retarded, the fact that Ca is so quick to give our hard earned money to illegal immigrants (free medical and what not.)

Central Oregon is a great choice, the Cascades, Bend, Sisters, Sun River, Black Butte, Mt Bachelor (year round skiing), Newberg Crater, Crater Lake, the ice caves, the hot springs, Cougar Resevior, etc, etc. The BMW MOA rally is being held in Redmond for the second time in 5 years, which rarely happens, but the feedback from the members on the riding, the scenery, and amenities was overwhelmingly positive.
