1998 TL1000R with <100mi.

Would you trust this bike?? 10 year old gas in the tank and hasn't been started/run either.

He's got a few more bikes that are old and 'brand new'...CBR600's, a Goldwing, and a Ducati 900SS

Here's his ebay page:

WOW... HOW? I couldnt buy all those bikes and stick em in storage for 10 yrs.. and never ride them...

TO answer your question: NO. I would not.. I bought a GS500 from a friend years back.. he NEVER rode it. It sat in his basement for like 8 yrs... the inside of the tank was rusted... just surface rust, but it was always falling into the tank and getting into the carbs.. the guy I sold it to said he was forever cleaning the carbs... far as I know it's never been reliable. I dont think there's anyway to get all the rust out of the tank once it happens... I would suspect these bikes to have similar problems....

You can affix the rust in the tanks POR. The guy has 520 rep points so I don't think its a scam, just caveat emptor regarding all the fluids and hoses being mucked up.

Oh no doubt the guy is legit... I wasnt questioning that at all... Then again, I dont guess you thought I was, huh?

I was just offering my opinion...

Further.. I think he wants a premium for them.

Ya, you can coat the tank insides and not have to worry about rust.

Also, being in NV, if it is anything like AZ, it might not have any rust on it.. Down here you can leave bare steel out in the weather and not have it even surface rust for a surprisingly long time.

I wonder how much it will cost to register that bike. it could get pretty expensive with 10 years of late fees.

POR and all those other treatments shed off after a few years.

My suggestion is to do this as I did to my Hawk GT tank.

My anode had a 1/8" coating all over it when I finished.

I would buy it for 5K, not what he is asking for it. That is if I had the cash, but I don't. Call me crazy.

The bike is near new condition. That gas has to be like syrup, after all these years. My big concern would be the cost asociated with buying new injectors, and a fuel pump.

8K for the smoking joes CBR! Um No!

Probably only in California... then again, how could they dispute that it hadn't been in storage for 10 years when it has less than 100 miles on it?

Yeah... that made me chuckle a little bit too.

Screw liners... Ajax or the trick in the video would be the way to go.
Or, since your buying a museum piece... maybe you could get a non-rusted tank off of eBay...?

I would put more trust in a low mileage, used bike for less cash that has at least been ridden and maintained over the years. He says the "dealer" said $300 and the bike could be road-worthy!?! Tires, battery, dry rot and cracks on all rubber components, seals, gaskets, timing belts on the Duke, not to mention the work needed on the fuel system! Maybe $2300 at the end of the day. Not such a good deal after all. And I don't think any of those models are particularily collectable, maybe if the 900ss was an F.E. but it's not.

It's interesting to watch though, he should just lock everything back up and open it again in 40 years time!
