WTB: engine for a 98 superhawk
Hello.
I'm thinking of buying a 98 superhawk from a friend but it has a bad engine.
The cam chain tensioner went out and now its toast.
So, anyone have an running engine for sale?
If I can find a decent engine at a decent price than I'm going to get the bike.
Let me know what you have.
I live in Portland, Or.
Thanks.

I'll give them a ring. My guess is that shipping will be a deal breaker... Orlando to Oregon will probably cost some $$$...

Hey, maybe this will help you out, still quite a ways away... but I will entertain an offer.

If I had $600 it would be already in my garage, but glad someone else can use it. What is bad on your motor? What is salvagable? I have about 3/4 of a motor for a spare (no rotating assembly but everything else looks good) Do you have a good rotating assembly for sale from your old motor? Be a shame to have all these pieces between us without one of us getting a running spare.

All I've been told is that the CCT went out.
I'm getting it from my friend this weekend and then I'll rip it apart.
Maybe its just a bent valve? Maybe the whole cylinder is f-ed? I dont know.
I'll take mine apart before I buy the other engine for sure.
I hope I can get to it this weekend but maybe not as I have a race on sunday...
It would be great if we can hook each other up with parts!

I may have what you need when you find out what's needed (did that make sense?). I'm in Everett, WA. I've got a motor still in the frame that took a hit on the oil pan and did some case damage. Bottom line the cases look bad but the top end and internals are cherry with about 6k on them.

Sorry I didn't catch the number. What ended up being messed up on yours? The crank?
Just keep your eye out. Seems like one comes up every 6 weeks or so on craigslist Seattle. There is a way you can do a search on craigslist for mulitple cities at once and it will email you if something comes up that fits your range in the search. I'll ask my brother in law about it.
Quick way to do a search city to city is search "superhawk vtr1000r" in the price range of $10-$600. Any ad that has superhawk or vtr1000r in it in that price range will come up. Bump it up to a $1000 and try to find a wrecked bike. Buying a wrecked bike is the way to go. Then you get a motor, extra wheels/tires, rectifier, bulbs, sprockets, clutch, stator, coils, ignitors, petcock, air filter, brake cylinders, calipers, spare pricey dealer only items, etc. Pick you want and pawn the rest on here to recoop $.
Have you tried Bent Bike in Lynnwood for a motor? They are expensive but maybe you can find a deal on a whole motor. At least you get a 30 day warranty.
