Looking to buy a newer year black upper triple tree in good to excellent condition. Let me know if you have one for sale, mine has holes in it from when I tried to do a superbike bar conversion.
I found some on eBay but they are priced higher than I want to pay
Question: Would it be OK to just buy a silver one and use some nice spray paint to paint it black instead?

I will have one up for sale in a week or two, once the 954 swap is done.
Not perfect though, it has wear marks into the black pain from my keys.
You can spray paint it, but it will probably just wear/flake off, powder coating would be the way to go.
Cheapest option would be to buy a tripple tree cover like this one, Honda VTR 1000F Firestorm Carbon Fiber Triple Tree Protector | eBay
just stick it to the triple to cover the holes.
