Ace, I've read all the posts on the bad things about KN filters or the difficulty getting them jetted right on our bikes. I posted a while back about a mod (dam) I did to mine and I can honestly say my bike has never run better. Granted, I have stacks and jetting changes. But. it runs perfect. I installed bungs in an extra set of headers and the AF mixture seems to be right in the ballpark. I've had her for 7 years and 28000 mi. and she's perfect.
I agree completely. I took a few minutes today and dropped in the K&N, it ran perfect with my setup. So good in fact that I decided to go ahead with my idea for a lightweight piston...
Yep, the V is d.e.d dead. It gave no indication at all, not even a sputter then all of a sudden, crackk!! Rear wheel locked up and I hugged the tank for a bit. A nice gentle skid to the side of the road and a short push home. Being inquisitive I tore it apart. As near as I can tell the rear piston split itself in half for no real good reason that I can see so far. Yikes. It was running like a beast though I have to say, and to be fair, I did bounce off the limiter a few times today while staring at the clouds...maybe that did it. Guess what I'm doing this winter lol. I'll post some pics of the carnage later tomorrow, it's a hot mess.
