Steering Damper needed WTB
Hey gang,
Getting ready for an upcoming track day and am looking for an affordable steering damper. I'll be traveling for work tomorrow through Sun headed for NASA's Hyperfest at Summit Point Raceway.
Should be home late Sunday night so I'll reply to PM's then or Monday morning.
Thanks in advance for the replys - have a great weekend!

I don't have one for a superhawk, but I have a nice steering damper that could be made to fit a superhawk I suppose...It's the kind that bolts to the center of the top tripple, and has a "finger" that sticks down to go between a bracket that would need to be fabricated and attach to the frame.
I'm planning to be at Hyperfest also, PM me and maybe we can hang out there.

Do y'all feel a steering dampener is required on the stock SH? I've put lots of miles on mine, including some track days, and I've yet to feel like one was needed, and I'm not easy on the throttle, lol. Always had them on my racebikes though, as they were required by the race organizations.

I've yet to do a track day or ride hard, with that being said I do feel that one would help my daily riding. I have a lot of surface shifts in corners where I live which cause the front wheel to jerk in the corner, would a damper help with that?

It would calm it down some, yes. The trade-off is some slight resistance to handlebar movements you create. I prefer my streetbikes to be lighter steering, and don't mind a little wiggling over bumps.

I've had the bars shake on my Superhawk under full throttle a half dozen times or so. Usually in first and second gear when the front end gets light.
I went down at 110mph from tank slap about 14 years ago on a '87 Honda Sabre V65. Lets just say I'm a little gun shy. That's why I'm installing a damper on my bike. I'd rather have one, than not have one and have something happen again. It's not fun crashing.
After rebuilding the front shocks and installing the damper, I hope to never feel the shake again.

Ive gotten head shake from my 85 KLR600 at 80+ mph, let me say that it was not fun so I love the solidness of the SH. I don't think I will mind a little heavier steering at all, I have Renthal flat bars on my bike so the leverage is much greater than stock...

I have a GPR V4 that I was going to fit to my bike, but never bothered with, as I found a new Scott's with all the mounting parts for nigh on nothing...
It will need a refresh with new fluids, and I haven't got the mounting post that fits the bolt pattern for the Superhawk's tank bolts, so it's a "project", but I'd let it go for reasonable money if you want it... The killer will probably be shipping, but if you are interested, let me know... In fact, if it's not a time constrained project, I can even knock out the mounting parts needed for you on the mill if you want... I'll dig it out later tonight and snap a few pic's, since I'm about to empty a few moving boxes anyways... (Still unpacking from moving in to my new house/workshop...)
