Like the title says, I saw this on speedzilla and it would be a shame to let them get thrown away. All he wants is shipping money.

DON'T DO IT!

BTDT. Years ago, I tried making my own from some bicycle gel seats for a VFR and later buying a suzuki accessory gel seat for my bandit. Both borderlined on pure suckiness (technical term). It's like riding on a bowl of firm jello. In the twisties it's just wierd and filters out a lot of feedback (more important than one would think) and even on long drones you still get monkey butt.

Pssst, here's a secret (whisper, whisper)...... you can actually buy sargent's "atomic" seat foam in blank form. YUP! It's really buried on their website but you can buy a one foot square (3 inch thick) for only $20!!!!! Order by phone as I don't think there's even an online option.

An electric carving knife and sandpaper will form it to any contour you want in just minutes. Keep in mind tho' it's still got to fit under the original cover so don't crazy on the design unless you get another cover made of course.

Bling, it is funny you say that, I was actually thinking that might happen, so I was looking at a cut of foam from the temperpedic beds...I think I spelled that right...anywho, some thing like memory foam that won't move around, and I was also thinking about making a different cover if it won't fit right....

But thanks for the heads up....

So, Bling, what do you think about the 1" memory foam? I can get a mattress topper for $39, that is a lot of foam, course if it works I can cover both seats, then sell one....Maybe start my own line of custom seats, or reseats....lol....then I will take over the WORLD!!!! yeah, so anyway back to the question at hand, know anyone that has used that stuff or something like it??

TIA

I think I read a thread somewhere that memory foam wasn't really good for motorcycle seats but I don't remember why. I think maybe it was because it gets very warm or that it compresses too much. Sorry, that's not much help. Maybe try a web search on it and let us know.

OH, I forgot to add this: I've owned a new sargent seat before (and corbins too) and the sargent's blank foam mod I tried on an OEM base was about 70% as good as theirs. Their better quality seat base and cover makes up the remaining 30%.

Bling,
Thanks for the info.
With a new cover and OEM seat maybe I'll get 85% the Sargent feel.

Cool...

I found a forum in CA, an SV site, these guys are using Angelo's Upholstery out there to cut down there seats, he uses a foam that looks similar to carpet padding, but density is not the same....I am trying to find out what he uses...looks like he has done a ton of these.....still searching...

Interesting. That bluish foam looks just like the stuff the carpet company used to do my floors. I think I still have a fat roll of that stuff. Let me know, and I can ship some to you, fuhree.

Seat arrived today, looks better than my original....I have begun the task of tearing it arpart, well removing the staples anyhow,.....I am going to experiment with a couple of diff types of padding to see which one is the best for molding, and comfort...I will take pics and post once I have the first model ready....think I might even look for a diff cover, like a croc, or lizard look....
