What year was it made?? (it's stamped on the chin strap)

RPV-Hawk 01-12-2010 10:01 AM

The 10/01 dates says it was made in October of 2001. Arai says helmets only last for 5 years. So that helmet, according to Arai should not be used.

whatever

Sounds like you have been sucked in by the marketing hype, arai likes to sell helmets

Lots of conflicting studies on time and use, half life on materials and changes vs marketing hype

now if you crash alot 8541 that might be a good reason to replace hehe

do they have a contingency scale for if the helmet sits in a closet. I bet not.... No reply needed 8541

No actually you want to sell helmets...or at least one. The date things is a factor in being able to sell the one you have.

Is the helmet still usable? Sure it is but I will also say that I picked up a Colin Edwards RX-7 , never taken out of the box, manufactured in '02 and paid less than what you're asking for the black one because of the date on the helmet.

When you say "never dropped HARD" does that mean it has been dropped "easily?" Not trying to bust your balls but it's either been dropped or it hasn't. I mention because I know the foam inside compresses with impact and will render any helmet less safe to any impact in the same area. Anyway nice looking helmet, good luck.

wow tough crowd

captainchaos : dropped = off the seat to the ground - slight scratch in back

8541Hawk = most slow guys think they know it all

Haha I'm sorry I wasn't trying to be a pain in the ass... again it's a real nice helmet. It may be a few years old but I had a friend awhile back who had one to match his brand new blackbird and I know it was one of the better helmets you could buy.

thanks

captainchaos = thanks

i have had a few arais and know them fairly well. in fact i have the same helmet. i forget how old it is, but it's close to yours, maybe a bit older. it is a nice helmet(maybe the best) but i have come to the conclusion that arai does not live up to the hype.

that rx7 has been retired for a while now and is resting peacefully on top of my entertainment tower. i though about trying to sell it but figured it's not worth anything anymore. what i'm nicely trying to say is that $250 is over priced. sorry to say it.

I've had 4 Arai's. The soft comfort padding inside the liner breaks down first over time. I still have Wes Cooley and Mike Baldwin replicas from the mid '80. The soft liner and cheek pads have long since disintegrated.

Also, if a helmet has been dropped, Arai recommends sending it in to them for X ray.

A friend of mine made a lamp out of his old Freddie Spencer replica.

Stay on topic, gentlemen. Follow the forum rules. It's been a while since I banned anyone for stupid shit and I'd like to keep it that way.
