Will not stay in second gear
A Superhawk I'm looking to purchase pops into neutral from 2nd gear with any considable amount of gas. What could be the cause and what do I do to go about fixing it.

Negociate pricing since you will need a transmission job. Minimun, change of fork...but usually leads to alot more. :(

Bent shift fork. Cheap part to purchase but requires you to split the cases. However, shift forks don't just "bend" unless the trans was abused. And generally people don't just abuse a trans, they abuse the WHOLE bike. So, my advice is to keep looking for a cleaner bike.

Thanks guys

Unless its crazy cheap at this point, just walk away.

Could be shift fork, or could be the gears themselves. Hard saying until you get into the transmission. The nice thing about these bikes is you don't have to drop the whole engine or tear it completely apart to replace the transmission. You can simply unbolt the bottom half of the engine, granted this does require removal of the clutch and rotor etc, and drop it down with the transmission and replace the needed parts.

For sure the shifter fork for 2nd gear is bent. Most likely it was bent because of worn dogs on the mating gears. Plan on a case-split job and several parts needing replaced. If it's cheap it still might be worth it. Good luck!
