When Synching Carbs
 

After fitting some H-Power billet stacks I noticed that when I hooked up my sync tool some raw fuel was in the vac line from the rear cylinder!

What would cause this?

Bike runs well at all revs but can't help but think that this is not right.

Any advice appreciated.

Sounds like a stuck open float valve.

I have the original carbs of my bike as a back up.

I bought another set after I Dyno jetted the originals and drilled the slides only to find that the drilled slides were a step in the wrong direction for me.

So I used the standard slides out of the set I bought and all was well.

Are the float valves the same on all the carbs?

If so I will use the ones in my spare set of carbs and hopefully all is well.

The bike runs well and pulls like a 16 year old with a Penthouse magazine so I am reluctant to change anything.

Any other ideas as to what could cause this ?

Torch down the carb and put another line to the petcock. Suck on the line to open the petcock, look down the carb. See if any fuel flows into the cylinder.

I coincidentally did a carb synch last night after restoring the carb heater lines that the previous owner had removed. When I removed the tee cap on the pet cock vacuum line, a small amount of liquid fuel was deposited on my hand . I would not have thought anything of it had i not read your post.
Everything seems to be in good order on my carbs.
So I experienced the same thing but have no explanation for liquid gas in the vacuum line. It was a small amount trapped in a low point. It was not running out or anything like that. But it was there.
NZ. I don't follow your method listed above. So I didn't break out the torch yet.:)

After redoing my mixtures I checked the lines and there is no fuel in them now!

Also took the bike for a 200 mile ride and checked again and nothing in the lines this time either!

I am puzzled!

Will keep an eye on it just incase.

We have had some extremely hot days lately and as I fill my bike to the brim with fuel I am wondering if that has something to do with it by way of putting extra pressure on the fuel system.

Just a thought.

No, it will bleed off through the vent if it had to much pressure.

Funny thing is that I noticed some raw fuel out of the vent pipe at roughly the same Time that I was syncing the carbs after fitting the stacks.

One of the things I like most about the VTR is that it is old school with Carbs and challenges you all the way.

No plug and play here with the VTR, just one big knowledge curve in relation to how you have ridden the bike, and what you experienced when you rode it!

Much more involving from my point of view.

If anything changes I will let you guys know.
