Wheel Identification

I just received the wheel that was supposed to be a 954 front wheel for my conversion. It has been a nightmare of a transaction so far, and I was glad to see it delivered. When I took it out of the box and started lining it up next to all of my other parts, I discovered the wheel can't be for 954. The rotor bolt pattern doesn't match, and the axl won't fit through the hub. How can I ID what bike this wheel is for?

can you post a pic?

uuummmmm....

He says it's a front rim for a 929,954,900, etc.

The problem is that all three of those bikes have different rims. At least I think so, some one correct me if I'm wrong.

Tweety 11-26-2007 05:54 PM

929/954 should have the same I think, forks and all the rest are the same... But this is NOT a 929/954 wheel... the spokes should be smooth, no line...

900RR has an other wheel... but that has more spokes...

SlowHAWK 11-26-2007 06:02 PM

Honestly... it looks like a Superhawk rim.... 929/954's have more of a rounded profile on the rim spokes from what I recall...

Measure the bearing ID and the dimension across the rotor mounting holes, that will help... looking at it though, it looks like a VTR rim. I believe the 929/954 is a 25mm axle... a Hawk is a 20mm.

I'm guessing but CBR600f4 98+99? We never tried a front swap when Chas had his CBR but the rears were a straight across swap to my VTR. The fronts were nearly identical in "look" but we never tried the fit.

Tweety 11-26-2007 06:16 PM

Not f4... it is the same as 929/954... smooth spokes...

But SlowHawk is probably right... I should have picked it instantly... The VTR has those lines on the spokes...

redman 11-26-2007 06:56 PM

I just got the 954 front for my swap...yours is definitely NOT the front wheel from a 954. The center hub is much bigger and the spokes are smooth..almost round in cross section..on the 954.
Sorry you're having troubles on Ebag...I'm in the midst of an Ebag debacle too...hope we both get our due.

If it is a superhawk rim as I think I will take it off your hands if it is true. Let me know if you dont want it.

fundgh 11-26-2007 09:29 PM

Funny that I think it is a SuperHawk wheel. That was my first thought when I tried to match up the rotors for the 954 and they weren't even close. I thought Hmmm, wouldn't that be ironical if this moron sent me SuperHawk rim for 954 front end swap... Maybe he took it off of a 954 that had a SuperHawk front end swap, and he didn't know it!

Tweety 11-26-2007 09:33 PM

Whatever the wheel is... he's a moron... That's for sure...

drew_c14 11-27-2007 03:56 AM

moron...yep

Hotbrakes 11-27-2007 05:08 AM

Gotta check that feedback. 80% is not someone I would rely on, and probably not someone willing to refund your money.

fundgh 11-27-2007 05:54 AM

It doesn't seem to be a VTR wheel either. The spacer is the same diameter, but the rotor bolt patter is slightly different. The spokes do look the same as the Hawk. Anybody know if there is an identifying number that can be referenced somewhere?

fundgh 12-20-2007 01:07 PM

I finally put the two wheels next to each other, and while they look exactly the same, the distance across the bolts is ever-so-slightly (but clearly) different. The wheel also says ASAHITEC rather than Enki. Does that clue anyone in as to what wheel this might be? It came with a spacer that is much narrower than the superHawks narrowest.

Fundgh:

Here is one listed on Flea-Bay, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/F-200...ayphotohosting

Thanks. I actually won this one last night -

I now have a VTR front wheel to sell as well as this unknown wheel.

RCVTR 12-20-2007 04:38 PM

Way back when I first got my bike, it had a 600F3 front wheel on it. I tried a 600F4i wheel that was an Asahi and looked EXACTLY like that one. That was when I found out the rotor hub diameter was different. Then I tried 600F4i rotors that a friend had and found out the rotor offsets were different.

I finally bought a VTR wheel and it worked.

I'll bet $20 it's a 600F4i wheel. The 954 wheels are a lot different. Not sure about 929 or 600F4 wheels.

fundgh 12-20-2007 04:54 PM

Why is it that when people advertise the 929/954 wheels, they often say they fit the f4i? That has me confused. Oh well. I will look into the F4i as a possibility.

After checking some ebay auctions, I am guessing the F4 is the leading possibility. It has the same lines and markings on the spokes (as the VTR) vs. the plain rounder spokes on the 929/954/F4i. I am going to go with that. Thanks for all of you input. If you think I am wrong, let me know.

RCVTR 12-21-2007 12:31 AM

Maybe it was and F4 wheel. I though it was an F4i though.
It did have similar lines to the VTR wheel and not the rounder spokes you are talking about. But it was and Asahi wheel, not and Enkei.

ill take that 20.
not an f4i wheel.

this is an F4i front wheel. Not the same.

Here is an F4. I think it's a closer match. Note the rotor mounting bolt cirlce.

RCVTR 12-21-2007 02:07 PM

I think I found it. See above.

fundgh 12-24-2007 02:03 PM

Thanks for the confirmation, I am fairly confident it is for an F4. Now I need to find a buyer!
