Weird sound over 2000rpm
I am in dire need of some help. My Superhawk has started to make some noises above 2000rpm. I have taken it to a shop for them to hear it and too see what they think....but they all say the exact same thing. That it sounds like it is coming from the airbox area and that they want to charge 300+ just to look at it and determine what it is. So.....if anybody has any advice that would be very helpful......BTW my bike has almost 40k on it with staintune high mount exhaust and jetted of course.

Where are you located?

Can you describe the sound?
And if you are interested, I have staintune low mounts I would be willing to trade for some high mounts :) |
im in connecticut.....and its almost like a metal ticking/rubbing sound. it does not happen all the time, cct's are new valves are adjusted. and carbs are set up and dialed in correctly for where i am at. and it does not happen all the time just sometimes, i have never lost power or anything, the bike runs fine just makes an annoying sound sometimes.

Well with my staintunes I had an exhaust leak where the down pipe couples to the header. There a crush collars in there that wear out that will cause a leak, which makes a ticking sound. I just had to loosen the bolt and slip the exhaust on a little more as there was a small section not sealed, it fixed the problem for me.
Start it up and get down and listen to where the exhaust mounts up, you may have a leak. |
