Washer on rear axle - need help with exact location
 

I was putting the front and rear wheels back on and don't remember......
On the rear axle, brake rotor side, there is a washer that goes over the axle.
Can somebody look and tell me:
Does it go between the rear caliper carrier and the inside of the swing arm (to act as a spacer) or between the axle nut and the outside of the swingarm, to act as a washer?

Just changed tires last week so by memory outside between nut and swingarm. I think I've had 5 sets of tires in the last 13 months. :shock:

hmmm, then I guess wrong.
Seemed there was a good bit of slop between the caliper carrier and the inside of the swingarm without the washer/spacer. More slop than I'd have expected.
I slid the axle out and put the washer between the carrier and the inside of the swingarm and it filled the gap perfectly.

Can you verify, or can others chime in ???

As a side note, I checked with a micrometer and found one front rotor is a few tenths inch closer to the fork leg than what I measured on the other side. Is this normal?
I know I got the spacers right on the front. Seems the tire is centered but there is a little offset on the rotors. They slid in between the pads fine and seem to be centered in the calipers.

Wait a minute aren't you the one who posted the pictures of every part? :roll: :lol: I don't know about the front end it's been a while since I've seen a Superhawk frontend. As long as everthing spins freely, I'd say yes.

Washer on the outside with the nut, a spacer on the inside between the hub/bearing and the caliper mount.

OK wise guys, I know the pic. I FOUND the pic!
But, the pic doesn't show where the washer goes in relation to the caliper carrier. It just shows that it goes under the nut.
The caliper carrier is shown on a different drawing so you don't get the exact location in relation to the carrier, only that the washer goes over the axle.
As well, the swing arm isn't shown in the drawing, so you don't get the exact location of (for example) item 5 in relation to the swing arm, etc.

If Superhawk is correct, then I know where the washer goes. But, I'm still left to wonder why the washer fits so nicely to fill the gap between the carrier and the inside of the swingarm.

Nope and yes I am a wise ass but you can trust me on this one.:wink:

It's already a pain in the butt to put it all together so they give you a little space to work with and when you tighten the axle it takes up the space. Same with the front but less noticable.

FWIW, I measured the front end pretty well. Facing the bike from the front, the right side (clutch side) rotor is about 4-5 hundredths closer to the fork tube than the other side. Doesn't sound like much, but I first noticed it by visual inspection. It looked closer and the micrometer proved it to be so.
I think it is normal. Not sure why it is that way, but everything fit nicely so I assume it is designed that way.

OBTW it's hard to determine someones facial expressions and inflections by reading the typed word.
